Turn up the heat!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Five Corners Properties

Today I thought I would combine a old question with a modern technology tip!

How many times have people asked you "I'm going to be away for a week, what temperature should I leave my house at?"

Well years ago the answer was 55 degrees or  extra leeway should you need to maintain the house above freezing in the event of a power outage.

But with the "GREEN" revolution in all our minds and I'm not only talking environment I'm talking green CASH $$$$ I would like to point your attention to NEST

First off I receive nothing from Nest, I am not an investor nor a paid spokesman... but I like this product...its available at big box stores like Best Buy.

 Nest Thermostat

What does it do?  Well if you are like me you set your temperature at one temperature and forget to change it....sure some of us have programmable with several temps like day and night... but Nest learns your schedule, programs itself and can be controlled from your phone. Be a good teacher and Nest can lower your heating and cooling bills by around 20%.

Its easy install... can you change a light bulb...thats not a joke, if you can change a light bulb you can install Nest

Since you asked the light bulb joke here it is

How many real estate agents does it take to change a light bulb? Nine, but we'll take eight.

It only takes about one week for the Nest to learn your patterns and with the app you can connect to your thermostat from a smartphone. Getting in early? Change the temperature miles from home.  How cool (or hot) is that!

For more information or questions on this great product which costs about $250 (you will certainly recoup with your energy savings) please contact me and I'll send you additional tips!

OK

I have seen this thermostat before.

Have had smart thermostats for years.

What do you estimate the payback time is for this item for the average home.
