I'd guess that almost all of us had had our fill of politics for a while. I know I'm done for the foreseeable future, which is why I almost skipped over a really interesting article on different ways to visually present the recent election results.
But I'm glad I clicked on University of Michigan physics professor Mark Newman's post about election maps - using tools from his studies of complex systems, he provides different ways to visualize the election results, and his maps are both revealing and thought-provoking.
We're all familiar with the basic election results map:

But here's the same information in a cartogram, adjusted by making the size of the states proportional to their population:

Interesting, right?
His post goes on to provide several additional maps which offer more context for the same basic information, all of which give us different perspectives on a particular moment in our history. It's a short post (and it really isn't about politics) - if you have time, check it out.
