Don't Let the Downfalls Derail You, No Matter What You Are Doing

I used to be in great shape.  Somewhere along the line I lost my motivation and excuse after excuse keep me more and more sedentary.  I think I'm beyond that now.  How do I know?  Last night I was walking down a flight of stairs to get my work out shoes.  I was dressed and ready for the gym.  I lost my footing and my rear end landed on the last three steps as I fell down them.  OUCH!  It hurt like I hit my funny bone.  What a great excuse this would've been to stay home and NOT work out.  Instead, I let the pain subside for five minutes and decided that working out would be good to stave off any stiffness that would result from the fall.  Had I thought I was seriously injured, I wouldn't have.  I was simply really sore and have a monster bruise this morning to prove it.

I've been like this in every other part of my life for years, particularly my real estate career.  I don't let the downfalls hit me hard.  When they happen, I dig in and find new ways of generating business, or of simply motivating myself.  Now, I'm happy to see that mindset has gotten hold of me when it comes to getting back into shape.

The main reason we succeed at things is our mindset.  Negativity and excuses are the medicine of those who don't succeed.  Creativity and the ability to move forward in spite of obstacles is at the core of a winner.  We all face the unknown, the painful and the depressing.  It's how we handle it that defines who we are.

Chris Ann,

Mindset is a huge factor.  If you BELIEVE you can succeed, you will find a way to make it happen.

I did a great job changing my eating habits 18 months ago becuase I decided it was more important to me to eat right and weigh less.  Totally a mindset.

Love this blog post, suggested.

All the best, Michelle

Chris Ann- first of all, glad it wasn't serious.  But also good for you for your positive attitude.   It would be really easy to find excuses for not doing what we don't really enjoy doing anyway.  But making yourself get up and go is what they like to call character shaping.

Chris Ann, I think you hit it on the head!  It's so easy to find excuses for not  being in whatever action we need to be in to succeed.  Good for you for hanging in there!  Hope your bruise subsides soon.

Anna:  I am proud to still be on track.  Worked out yesterday and will do so again today.  It's great to have the right mindset back.  Without it, accomplishing anything is nearly impossible.

Kathryn:  I had a trainer years ago.  It was definitely the right motivation at the right time.

Elizabeth:  You bet I'm holding on to the railing.  I'm glad nothing got seriously injured this time, but I don't want there to be a next time.

Connie:  Two months ago, so would I.  I could've used that excuse for a week.

Michelle:  I've heard it said that the most valuable real estate that exists is the space between our ears.

Kathy:  I feel so much better when I've done it. And now I'm beginning to enjoy actually DOING it.

Pat:  Didn't think the bruise could be worse after two days, but it's horrifying.  Thank goodness my clothes cover it up.

Donna:  I know that's right.

Peggy:  Not serious at all.  Just an ugly bruise.

Pat:  Love seeing that giant thumb's up.  Thanks.

Hi Chris,  Not sure if we are all getting a little older or if the stairs are getting harder !  Take care.

Bill:  The fall down the stairs is definitely not a first for me.  I'm a clutz.  Usually moving too quickly and not holding the hand rail.

I read about your fall on your Facebook post last evening.  Didn't know you were going to the gym and I'm glad you didn't let it become an excuse!

Chris Ann, you did the right thing! The best thing to do is get right back up after a fall. We have lots of ups and downs in this business, and we just need to keep rolling with the punches.

One of my personal mantras is "this too shall pass" because like your point, I've really found that in life just when you think things can't get much worse, then tend to turn around and get better. Of course, we have to make that happen... get back up and push on. Thanks for the inspiration.

Pat's Favs sent me here.  Good luck with your exercise program.  I agree that choosing how we respond to events determines the person we become.  I'm hungry right now and choose to get some ice cream.

Couldn't agree more. It's not how, how often, or why we get knocked down.  It is whether we get back up.

Sometimes you have to crawl to get that exercise. Keep going as it will become easier. Soon it will become a great habit.

Carla:  That's the great thing about connecting with folks through Facebook.  You get the scoop much faster.

Eric:  That's the only way to do it.

Paula:  Bets crying in the corner complaining about why things aren't the way you want them.  We have to be proactive in making them the way we want them.

Gretchen:  I see so many people that seem to never get this lesson.  They are the victim always and complain endlessly about how bad things are.

Lloyd:  Yum!  Now that I'm exercising again I can make that choice without feeling guilty.

Gary:  Yep.  Getting back up doesn't have to be traumatic either.  It can be invigorating.

Lyn:  I actually had the best exercise session I'd had right after the fall.  Didn't even really hurt.  Not what I expected.
