There Are STILL Some REALLY Good People In This World
Friend Joni Staples reminds us that there are good people in the world and all it takes at times is a simple act of kindness. I hope you pay it forward and enjoy a great day in all you do. Joni would enjoy hearing from you!
There Are STILL Some REALLY Good People In This World
A Random Act of Kindness
I stopped by the Dollar General in Riverside, Texas on my way home tonight. I went in for only a few items, but then I remembered that our office is going to start a food drive for the local food bank. So I went down the non-perishable food aisle, and they had large jars of peanut butter on sale. The price was really good, so I grabbed the last three jars.
I went to check out and ran into a friend. As I was checking out, he noticed my three LARGE jars of peanut butter and I explained, that YES, I do like peanut butter... but that I was buying those for the Food Bank because they are a really good price, and the food bank is running low on food.
The lady behind him (who I have never met before) says....
“How much are those jars of peanut butter?”
I replied... “They are only $3.75. It is a really good price.”
Then she asked “Did I just hear you right? Are you buying those for The Good Shepherd Mission?” So I explained that the Good Shepherd Mission and the Crisis Closet are the two food banks in Walker County. The Good Shepherd Mission mostly cooks and feeds people and the Crisis Closet provides groceries to families in need. I told her that my office is doing a food drive for the crisis closet because they are short on food. Then she stuffs some money in my hand and says go get you two more.
I explained that I had bought the last three, but I was going to come back because the sale goes through the 26th of November.
The next thing I know, she is telling me not to leave because she wants to give me the rest of her change to help buy more peanut butter.
All together, this stranger handed me over $16.00 to buy more peanut butter for the Crisis Closet when Dollar General’s delivery truck comes again next Tuesday.
I am beside myself with appreciation for this sweet lady's generous donation. You may not think $16.00 is much. It’s like a hundred dollars to me.
This young lady has no idea who I am, or if I will spend her $16.00 on peanut butter or not. What she did took a LOT of faith.
I could HARDLY WAIT to get home and share this story with the rest of the world. What a great community we live in. I have not even got the word out that we are doing a food drive and we have already received our first donation!
If you are reading this and live in Walker County, we could sure use your help. Stop by your favorite store and pick up some dry beans, rice, paper towels, toilet paper, toothbrushes, beans, corn, carrots, ANYTHING that is considered non perishable. Then drop it off at the Prudential Anderson Properties office located at 3642 State Highway 19 right there in Riverside. We will be doing the food drive throughout the end of the year. If we get too many groceries that we have to deliver some at Thanksgiving and then the rest at Christmas... well wouldn’t that be a wonderful thing.
There are STILL some REALLY GOOD people in this world. I just met one tonight! I don’t even know her name.... and she never asked me mine.♥
