IF YOU HAD TO EAT ONE FOOD FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE

What would it be? For clarity sake, I am asking the following: If you had to eat just one thing over and over again for the rest of your life, and that item never changed, what would it be? Think carefully here. One food until you die. Would you go for taste, health, convenience, fun, function, pleasure or sustenance..One food...but which one?

HERE WE GO

Rice was given as one answer. In certain parts of the world, they are doing that already. It is not far fetched and rice has benefits as well as making you feel full too. Easy to cook, eat and digest.

Beans was another good answer. That has been around for ages and it works just fine. Prospectors lived off of beans. they were easy to pack, store and cook. They also supply you with all the necessary health benefits too. Beans anyone?

Another good one is Nuts. Think about this. Nuts are very good for you, can be prepared many ways and keep you full. The almond and the walnut claim to be a nut that supplies more than its associates but all nuts contribute heavily to your well-being.

Corn is an interesting food. It can be eaten raw or cooked and it also can be ground into a meal and with some finesse turned into a bread loaf or a muffin. There are so many ways to cook corn and they all smell good too

Coconuts qualify for a good one type of a food source. They have been proven and carry their weight for centuries now. You get the milk of the nut and then the chewy body of it. It can be heated, mashed and even made into a creamy pudding too.

Banana is up there for consideration as well. Now I don't know if it supplies all your needs, but you wont die for the lack of it. I know they are loaded with nutrients and energy, fills you up and can be served cooked, dried and even in a porridge too.

Perhaps you have an entry you would like to share. I could eat any of the above all day every day for decades and be content. The question is....CAN YOU?

Richie,

I'm going to go in a completely different direction here... It has to be Italian salami. Of course, eating it every day I may not have to wait long.

Rice would be the answer for me. It is my favorite food on the planet. That would be what I would miss the most.

I have thought about this before... I think it would be mushrooms.  You can eat them fresh, sautee them, smoke them, ... portobellos are almost like a burger!  Is wine a food?  Kathy

Richie - I always have rice of some description made up in bulk for eating or snacking. I think I could make a case for it alone, if allowed different presentations under your rules.

Richie to Rich...your crackin me up...Okay, your on an island and their are wild goats. From there, salami is doable my dear friend...As to your second point, if you had to chase down the goats, you would burn off the fat...thus living longer...Yes?

Bob...most excellent choice and I like the invitation that goes with it. ....I can see the steam clams, lobster and abalone and fish stews with some seaweed for seasoning

Roger...we have to get ahold of Bob's address so he could toss some of that seafood on your pasta....Rich and I am coming over too...

Joe...rice it is for you my freind...Wild rice if you can handle it....

Roy...most excellent choice Roy. consider that they would no longer be called sweet. Roys potatos is more like it...

Kathy...No wine because you would need grapes and that is 2 choices. Not allowed! However, mushrooms would make an interesting choice. I like it. You can eat raw, make a porridge, stew them, roast them and even make shoes out of them (I saw this in a movie)...good one Kathy

Larry...rice works and it is so simple and Joe (#6 booth above) and you could take turns cooking....

One food....mmmmm?

My one food is a vegetable that is meaty, filling and delicious beyond words. It stands on its own, because even dipping sauces interfere and detract from its already perfect taste.  One leaf at a time, it cannot be eaten quickly, and ahhhhh, just when you think it could get no better, you realize that those leaves were just appetizers, and you arrive at the heart of the matter where the real treasure is there, waiting to be revealed. But not without some work. It is hidden, protected, so one must carefully seek it out, then purify it of thistles before it can be enjoyed. It will not be taken quickly...it wants to teach you patience in attaining its heart.

Yes, it's the artichoke for me, hands down.

Hi there Kathleen...the prize for keeping us all in suspense until the last sentence goes to you hands down. As far as the perfect food goes, this one is up there hands down. Hey, dry the leaves after munching on the tips and use for earrings?
