Indian Summer

Veteran's Day, 11/11/12

Reflections

It has been a weather roller coaster here in New York. First Hurricane Sandy left our shoreline unrecognizable. Utility crews came from all over the United States and Canada to help restore power to hundreds of thousands of people. As we began to settle into a new normal, a Nor'easter deposited six inches of snow on our doorsteps, taking down trees and disrupting power once more.

The colors of fall!

Why does any of this matter? Today is Veteran's Day and we celebrate with a three day weekend. It is a tradition to think of the sacrifices the brave soldiers serving our country have made to keep us free and to thank them for their service.

New for 2012

This year I find myself reflecting on the fall season. We haven't had a traditional Indian Summer in many years and this year we are blessed with a glorious weekend. Is it a coincidence Indian Summer is happening on Veteran's Day weekend? I think it will help us put the storms behind us as the Northeast, like Veteran's returning home from war, adjust to a new and very different tomorrow.
