The Ice Rink is OPEN in Historic Old Folsom

While riding my bicycle this morning, I found myself in Historic Folsom.  There is never a shortage of events, or fun things to do along Sutter Street in Old Town.  This morning, workers were grooming the ice at the rink, which celebrated its Grand Opening for the season yesterday - November 10h.  The location adjacent to the Folsom Railroad Museum, provides a circular donut shaped rink for skating this year.  The Historic Railroad Turntable, acts as centerpiece to the ice.

I snapped these photos a little before the morning opening.  But, it was easy to imagine gaiety arriving shortly.  Music was already playing.  Only laughter was needed!

The ice rink is located on Sutter Street at Decatur.  It will be open daily from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm – including Thanksgiving and Christmas Day!

Admission is $10.00 per skate session - $2.00 skate rental.  Kids (8 and under) - $8.00 $2.00 skate rental.

Parking is FREE.  And access to Light Rail is nearby.

“Historic Folsom Ice Rink” for more information!

If the ice rink is open, winter must be near. Thanks for sharing your photographs.

Have an outstanding week.  Enjoy the colors of the season with your camera in hand.

Hi Myrl... What a cool way to do an Ice Rink! What fun, I haven't been ice skating for years... for everyone's safety they'd probably want to clear the rink if I were there!

Hi Myrl, It looks like you got therre before it opened. You should have gone home and gotten your skates and jumped the barrier. Then take a photo of yourself. It would have been perfect ice with no blade slices or divits from the toe pics.

Myrl,

That should be fun for everyone to experience ice skating.  When we lived in Minnesota, we had a natural ice rink, in the depression the grass made, but we would walk to the park where the "real" one was.  Luckily, it had a warming hut, where we could warm up and have some hot chocolate.  Do you skate Myrl?  A

Oh, I loved ice skating; I wasn't any good at it spending more time on my posterior that I like to remember! Looks like a fun place, Myrl.

Myrl, I would love to come visit for a skating session around the ice rink! Although I live in Florida now, ice skating has always been my favorite winter pastime.

Roy - I think you may be right!  The opening of the ice rink is a sign:-)

Rene' - In the past the Historic Folsom Ice Rink was a little to the left of the turntable.  But, this integration with the turntable is very interesting.

William - I'm getting enough flak from my family for riding my bicycle without a helmet.  I can only imagine what would happen if they saw a picture of me on ice skates.  I keep telling 'em it isn't my head that needs protecting, it's a hip, should I break one. . .There's no helmet for that:-)

Alexandra - I haven't ice skated in years.  As readily as I got back on a bicycle a couple of months ago, I'm a little more cautious about ice skates.  I would be willing to try roller skates again though.

Patricia - There are days when my body doesn't seem to keep up with where my mind wants to go.  Yesterday, both were talking the same language. . .Today - Not so much:-)

Debbie - I was there before they opened at 10:00 am.  I suspect if I had hung around an hour or two, the rink would have been full, as it is most times when it is open.

Toni - I remember enjoying roller skating a lot better than ice skating.  Perhaps it was because I used rental skates with no ankle support, and it all seemed quite lame.

Elizabeth - Nope, I'm no superwoman!  Folsom is about 7 miles by car from my home.  On the bike trail, it is longer.  I figure from the American River Parkway map that it is about 11 miles from my house.  So, it was approximately 22 miles round trip.  However, I stopped at the Fish Hatchery to watch the Salmon climb the ladder, and other interesting things along the way there, and returning home again.  Remember Nimbus Lake where we went fishing last year?  It's along that stretch of trail too.  It was gorgeous yesterday, with rowing teams out on the water.  I have pictures, and I'll post them in a day or two.  Most bikers would laugh at my mere 22 miles, but I'm licking my wounds today.  This morning, I only cycled about 10 miles!  There is a little secret to sore muscles.  It can be caused by lactic acid getting stuck in your muscles (that's an unscientific way of describing it).  The best way to relieve it is to get back on the bike (in all your pain) and start cycling again. . .LOL

Barbara-Jo - I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures.  Thank you for the reblog, it is greatly appreciated!

Silvia - My favorite winter sport is sitting in a spa at 102.5 degrees.  Preferably at day's end, with a hot spiced cider waiting:-)

Myrl, I don'ty think the rink at Rockefeller plaza is open as yet this is early in the year and not really cold enough for ice.

Myrl,

You crack me up! I know what you mean. Today my body and brain felt like taffy - I was being pulled in several directions at once! From Flower Mound to Frisco, to Lewisville, then Frisco to Flower Mound to blah, blah, blah.

Just keep doing what you're doing and eventually you'll get there.I have faith in you.

Hi Myrl, Wow the weather must be cooling off up there as we were in the 80's today. Look like an interesting park with a lot of history and if those walls could talk?
