Hiking in the Dundas Valley - Canterbury Falls

Hiking in the Dundas Valley - Canterbury Falls.

Today was a beautiful day for a hike in the Dundas Valley, near Burlington and Hamilton, Ontario. The sun was shining and at 18C it was the warmest day we've had in quite awhile.

As we hiked along the trail, we made our first stop at Canterbury Falls.

Canterbury Falls is located on Sulphur Creek. It is a terraced ribbon waterfall, 3 m wide and 9.5 m high.

After leaving the falls we hiked further into the Dundas Valley Conservation Area. We came across Sulphur Creek on many stretches of the trail. It sparkled in the late afternoon sun.

The Dundas Valley Conservation Area welcomes horseback riders, as well as mountain bikers and hikers. With numerous kilometres of well-groomed trails, it is a horseman's paradise. There are even places at the Trail Centre to tie up your horse while you go in to get a tea or a bite to eat.

The area used to be known as Sulphur Springs and was a regular stop for trains traveling from Brantford. Today the original track is gone, leaving a recreational trail in it's place. The railway station has been reconstructed and is the trail centre for the Dundas Valley Conservation Area.

The Dundas Valley Conservation Area is an enchanting place to visit and we were pleased to see so many people out enjoying it on this beautiful November day.

I haven't done this type of thing since I was  kid growing up. Such a wonderful thing to do, to leave the rat race for a little while.

Winston,

As part of my exercise regimen, I try to get out hiking regularly....it's good for the body, mind and soul.

Hi Jennifer,

The Dundas Valley is one of my favourite areas near Oakville and Burlington. It's considered part of Hamilton, but is a world apart.
