Virgin Islands goes to NAR Realtor LogoTwo nights ago -  the Virgin Islands Realtors at the NAR Conference.

The purpose of the Virgin Islands Realtors attending the NAR conference in Orlando, Florida, is for education, exchanging information and ideas with other associations, resolving governance issues and building camaraderie. Socializing can be a part of all of these goals.

Characters at Universal Islands Adventure

Realtor, Karen Korsgren, encounters one of many characters from the theme park.

The entertainement and socializing has been enjoyable. For the Realtors Night Out, NAR brought out the Universal's Islands of Adventure from 7:30 pm to 11:00 pm. The amusement park is filled with vendors and rides. A core group of Virgin Island Realtors attended, our first stop was The Incredible Hulk Coaster, a hair raising, terrifying ride that twists and turns, pulls several "g's" I am sure and generally scares the begeebees out of you. Loved it. We progressed to Doctor Dooms Fear Fall, that dropped us several hundred feet, okay but it was over pretty quick. From there it was on to The Amazing Adventure of Spider Man. This was the best one I went on, it combined 3D experiences with a feel of a roller coaster and sensations of heat, cold, wind and water. The images were so real they made you reach out to fend them off. Events like this bring you into contact with people you think you know under circumstances you might not ever see them in. Encourages people to try things they may not have tried before or at least in a very long time, it has been 20 yrs since I have been on a roller coaster.I did not experience The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, I under stand it took the virtual experience to yet another level. I just didn't have the stamina to keep going.

The following night, after a full day of governance meetings and classes a group of Virgin Islanders went to dinner at The Funky Monkey Wine Company, a fun restaurant that served everything from sushi to stakes. Some people brought their spouses, We work such long hours, sometimes we have never had an opportunity to meet each other's spouses, much less share a meal and a nice time.

And last night, the culmination of the entertainment. The concert, first the Realtor's talent show. Our peers are very talented, their experience ranges from professional performers to amateurs who are very good. It is staged to be very much like the popular talent TV shows with an MC and judges, the audience gets to text in their votes.  Lionel Cornelius of Charlotte, NC took first prize of $2,000. Almost as much fun as watch the competition was watching his son's excitement when he heard his father's name announced.

Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members, preformed songs form their solo careers and The Eagles like, Take it Easy, Lyin' Eyes, Life's Been Good, and You Belong to the City.  A trip down memory lane. They changed guitars on just about every song and the accustics were spectacular for such a large hall. I have attended a number of these concerts with different artists in different facilities.  I am not sure if this hall was better built for sound or if the groups' engineers were better or what the reason was, but there was a definite difference.

This is the fifth in a series of blogs on the NAR Conference.
