If you are looking for a way to honor our Veterans this Veteran's Day, 2012, perhaps a trip to the Arlington National Cemetery is in order.  Arlington, Virginia is probably most known nationwide for the beautiful National Cemetery where our service men and women are honored and buried.   27-30 funerals are held there each day, and you can search for the schedule on line.    Arlington National Cemetery is open 365 days a year, 7 days a week. While you are there,  you can also visit the striking Iwo Jima Memorial, which also gives you panoramic views of Washington DC the Washington Monument and even the Capitol building, as you can see from the picture below.  the Netherlands Carillon and the  Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which is guarded 24/7 365 regardless of weather.   The Changing of the Guard occurs every hour on the hour from October 1 to March 31, every 1/2 hour April 1- September 30.   A full description of this ritual is posted here on their website.

My elementary school was on the site of the tall apartment building, the top of which can be seen in the photo.  We played at the bell tower often!

Coral - Great pictures. Did you take those? My mom and her husband are coming this week and we will be visiting Arlington Cemetary. I haven't been in awhile. Your pictures make it look beautiful.

Yes! These are from spring. I got better fall ones on Veteran's day, need to post those! We went and it was really awesome and humbling.
