How Colorado Built Green Ruined My Home!

 Mountain Built Green Luxury

I am marketing Ouray County's first ever Colorado Built Green Certified Home. All I can say is that this experience is ruining my satisfaction with my current residence, in a good way! After spending hours with the builder, Scott Bridger of Bridger Construction Services Inc., going over the homes specs, and how it receives the Built Green approval, I could just feel the money pouring out of my not so "tight" home. To add insult to injury I just completed the Vaned course Building Green: The High Performance Home. Nothing like hours and hours of why most homes aren't very efficient to make you look critically at yours. Just look at this insulation slide:

Three layers of insulations

Don't get me wrong. I love my home. But, after you begin to understand what Building Green can do in terms of energy efficiency, durability, and comfort it may ruin you from buying anything else. Does it cost a little more to build? Sure. However, the level of comfort someone can have knowing that their home is not wasting any energy, was not wasteful in production, and will stand the test of time is incredible. It simply has to be the way all residential construction is headed...fast. The Ouray County Watch paper is doing a special on Building Green and the home in their January 29th issue.

Building Green has so many layers and is such a great concept that I think I'll leave it up to the experts to tell that story. A lot of folks think it's just more insulation or energy star rated appliances. Visit the website for detailed information. Let me warn you though...it may cause you to sell your home and find the closest "Green" builder tomorrow.

Nice story on Built Green. Congratulations on getting this fantastic listing. I hope it leads to more green building there.

Rolando - This was a referral and a really great opportunity. The home is spectacular and wanting for nothing. We are on a pretty big green building push here and expect more to come. Once you go green you can't go back!

Hey Floyd - Carl from over Texas way - hope you are doing well.

This is very interesting and I'm sure we will all have to learn many new ways to survive by going "green."

So far we haven't had many build this way yet in our area but sure it is coming. Sure would help on the electric bill.

Stay in touch

Hey - don't forget you are still part of our group Hill Country Inspector

I can say living in a really well built green house will spoil you!  You will never want to go back.  I have done a number of remodels in the past, but having built what was my dream green home of 3 years ago, I can tell you, even though it's considered greener to remodel an existing structure, I can't imagine taking someone else's shell and acheiving this level of comfort and efficiency!  I am really looking forward to my next build when I can incorporate all the information I've gathered since building this one!

Tamara - So true! I got to looking at my own home and once I added up what it would take to go green....it was pretty depressing! Like you said, all good stuff and I will certainly build green when/if the time comes. For now I'll just focus on selling this one!! Thanks.

Mike - Here's what we know. I just spoke with Rick Weaver, Dennis Weaver's son and the developer of River Sage. He said they are currently taking reservations on 7 lots. They range in price from $320-$350K with earnest money required on reservation. They are putting in roads now and should have infrastructure in by Novemeber when they look to get Final Plat approval. There is no website yet, but they are working on that. The sketch plan, which is mostly accurate with minor changes, can be seen at google earth. You have to type in River Sage Ridgway CO and then click the link.

Hope that helps. Let me know if I can help you more.
