elmoWe've had some questions about what types of posts are relevant and included (or deleted) from the Active Rain Newbies group. The moderators got together and discussed some of the gray areas. The goal for the group.... A place for people new to the site to quickly find information to help them participate in the site and community....without having to sort through posts on other topics.

People new to the site sometimes need help to figure out how to use Active Rain. Sometimes even those of us who have been here for a while still need help :) - hidden secrets of active rain exposed. (Hey, there's an idea for someone's next post.)

The Active Rain Newbies group is not meant to cover topics for people new to real estate. If you are interested in that check out the Real Estate Rookies group.

Appropriate posts for the Active Rain Newbies group

  1. Introduce yourself.
  2. Post blogs with Active Rain how-to questions here.
  3. Post blogs that have instructional information to help people use Active Rain (and Localism)
The following will also be accepted...
The idea is that these do not exactly fall in the above category, but can be helpful to newbies and get them interested/participating in the site.
  • Week in Review posts
  • Contest Announcements and Winners (not individual contest entries)
What will be deleted from the group
  • Listings
  • Advertisements
  • Meme's
  • Point Stories
  • Achievement Stories
  • Market Reports
  • Anything about markets, banks, foreclosures, etc.
  • How to use technology or blog that are not specific to active rain blogging.

We love blogging. We want people to blog. We love posts on all kinds of topics. We love reading posts on all topics.

If we delete your post from the group, it is not anything personal. It is just not to topic. Please help us keep group to topic. It's more fun when you are looking through groups to see only see relevant info.

Thanks for the reminder.  I have trouble remembering when I am posting a blog what can go in to which catagory.  It would be helpful to have  a little reminder with each group what can go there.

Hi Aida - If you posted to your blog and then included it in one or more groups... then yes you can go back, edit the post and include it in a new group. However if you just posted directly in the newbies group, then the post is completely removed. If you see your post on these pages, then you can repost to another group.

Thanks for the heads up.  I have been so busy with work and life that I probably should have take a moment to research that.  Afterall, we do a lot of research, eh?  It's good not to take it personally, because this wonderful site serves many, many purposes.  And sometimes the purpose/point that I might be trying to make isn't "on point" or "on task" for that particular blog.  So when it happens, dust yourself off and make a go at it from a different angle!  Wow, too many cliches for me.  Been a long day.

Thank you for the clarification.  I am new and there are obviously a lot of rules to learn.  I understand why all these rules seem to be necessary.  I guess I just like to err on the side of simplicity.  But I am still new so this is definitely in my very humble opinion.

Please allow me to introduce myself..My name is Eileen and I am truly a new member not only to AR, but to the whole blogging world.  I will start off by asking your forgiveness for asking dumb questions.

I just recently added my first blog to my own page.  How do I get people to comment on it?  I know I need to be patient, however, I guess my concern is that, did I do it properly, or perhaps am I missing a step somewhere?

Help please?

Thanks for the update.  I had a post deleted and immediately felt bad and wondered why and even a little angry.  But once I went back to the group and read the guidelines in more detail it made sense.  I just active rain about 2 weeks ago and am just getting the hang of it as far as postings and groups and so forth.  I love it !!!!!  Once I realized why my post was deleted and removed from the group, it made all the sense in the world.   Not that it was a bad post, but the content had nothing to do with "active rain newbies".

Hi Eileen - I checked out your blog. You do have comments enabled, so you're off to the right start. To get people to comment.... first you need to get people reading your blog. Tell people about it, post regularly, and comment on other people's blogs. Those people will check out who you are and start reading. Once you get some people reading...in your posts asks for comments. Ask people's opinions on a topic. Ask for feedback. Post about a controversial topic. These all make it more likely for people to comment.... Good Luck.

Thanks for the great advice Angie.  I will definitely try it.  This maybe be a dumb question, but how do I find people to see what they blog about?  Does  that make sense?  Do I just randomly check for anyone that I can come across?

Oops, just had a post deleted, so I came back to read what I had done wrong. And there it was, "no banks,..." and my post was about something relating to banking. I thought I had read the instructions, but not closely enough. I was a bit shocked at first to see I had a post removed but like Christopher and Stephanie, now I understand. I just won't post here anymore :) Not!

H Angie, I just had a post in fact( I have had 3 post deleted  ) from the newbie group. Just a comment this post was about a post when to put up sign riders.  I read the guide lines and can not figure wher I fit in and as far as , DO NOT post about, Just wanted to let you know it wasn't  intentional, and I am still not sure.

I like  the structure and what the moderators do in each of the groups,  they keep the members focused and safe and that is a good thing. I must admit there are some post out there that have not been deleted well ...I just scatch my head and say how in the world did this get through.  I put an extreme amount of time and research in my post that I feel benefit the members (it is not just about points to me) There is something a little harsh about being deleted,  although I realize, it not meant to be, (especially from the newbie group.) I guess this comment is provoked because it caught me off guard. I wake up Sunday morning open my home page on AR and see I have been deleted from a post I have put a lot of time into.  Oh well....you caught the bunt of my frustration. I am going to leave the group, so there won't be any more problems with my post being deleted.  Thank you and I have learned a lot.  It has introduced me to Active Rain ( it was overwhelming for me at first) now I am at a point where I want to help someone else not be as confused as I was.  Thanks again

The volume of people posting on other topics is overwhelming and it is very difficult to keep up with it.
