The Zilker Trail of Lights is back thanks to local running store owner Paul Carrozza, through his RunTex Foundation! He worked diligently to assemble the pieces of a 1.2 million dollar financing package. Details on the time will be coming soon.
Grocery chain HEB made the biggest commitment followed by Dell, Samsung, Seton, Vista Equity Partners, Human, Cirrus Logic and South Point. More sponsors are in the works. Companies are listing to Austinitie’s desires and are giving back to the community….kudos to all!!
Carrozza does credit the City Council and Major Lee Leffingwell with helping bring back the event they killed off for budget reasons four years ago.
Corrozza felt it was important to keep it free to the public and the county taxpayer. This way it is now supported through corporate underwriting, business sponsorships and individual giving. If you want to become a Trail Blazer and donate so this tradition can continue check out: http://austintrailoflights.org/index.php/trail-blazers/.
The new Trail of Lights will attempt to recreate the popular holiday event in its entirety including its 43 individual scenes. Organizers are planning additional activities, including “elf night” and an attempt to set a world “caroling” record with 15,000 singers!
So mark your calendars for the return of the Trail of Lights which will run December 16-23rd 2012 in Austin’s Zilker Park!
