Kansas City Interior Designers – The Symphony Designers’ Showhouse Wants You!
We are looking for Kansas City interior designers – new and old, traditional and modern, big and small, from far and near! The Kansas City Symphony Alliance, KCSA, (formerly the Junior Womens’ Symphony Alliance), the volunteer organization that raises funds for the Kansas City Symphony, is preparing to host our annual fundraiser, The 44th Symphony Designers’ Showhouse for 2013 at 1032 W. 55th St.
This year, I am serving as Co-Chair of the Designers’ Committee along with Sheryl Kiefer. We are excited to tackle our task of identifying designers to bid on rooms from a total of over 40 potential design spaces in the home. Our job is to develop a common theme that will tie together all of the design areas in the house, and make sure the home beautifully flows from one room to the next.
This project is even more exciting this year because of the house and it’s history. So many people have driven by the location west of Loose Park and have wondered about the house and who lived in it - I have for years. Now, for a reasonable entrance fee, people will be able to tour it - before the work is done - in its as-is state, then after the decorating is complete. It is just south of the Country Club Plaza, along the Ward Parkway corridor, and just happens to be on the National Historic Register. Known as the Bent and Ward House, it was also our 16th Designers’ Showhouse back in 1985 and brings a lot of history and memories with it. The generous couple who own it now, are willing to share it with us and the public for this wonderful project.
Designers will benefit not only by being associated with this prestigious project, the longest continuing running showhouse in the country, but by the exposure. In the past, some of the designers and their spaces have been featured in our local Kansas City media – from television stations to print publications, but also national publications and magazines. Among other publications, we’ve recently been in the New York Times, and this year one of our designers will be featured on the HGTV Website of Showhomes! So, they not only get to showcase their work to an audience of potential clients and thousands coming through the door, but they help our city through supporting the Symphony and it's youth program.

If you are a designer, or know of a good one, please email me to receive an invitation to our Designer Bid Days. We’ll notify you when you can come through preview the house, then decide which spaces to submit a Design Proposal for. We will make our decisions in late January, and designers will start work in early February. It will be open for public tours from April 25-May 19, 2012. For more information on Kansas City’s Designers’ Showhouse 44, visit the website for home, sponsors, event and other information as well as details for the public who plan to visit. I'll update this post once we confirm our dates and deadlines. We hope to see some great & exciting designers and fresh ideas!
