Do You Encourage Someone Who You Think Might Be A Great Realtor?

I wonder.  When we meet someone that seems to have the skill set that would make them a Real Estate super star, Do you encourage them to think about the profession?

Great "people" people. help wanted

We hear it all the time, but honestly, there are some folks that I come across in my travels and business that to me, "scream" Realtor.    When I meet these folks, I often ask them if they have ever considered the exciting and rewarding career in Real Estate.   I mean, there are probably not many people that grow up aspiring to become a real estate professional.  (I could be wrong here, just my opinion.)

By no means am I talking about just a young people.   Many times, it is the experience and demeanor of a more mature person that makes me think, wow, this person is perfect for the real estate profession.

Believe me when I tell you that I never even remotely thought about selling real estate until I was encouraged by some former co workers. (as told in my blog, So you want to become A Realtor?)   If not receiving this gentle push, this is one field that I would have never, ever considered.   Had it not happened, I would not have the satisfying feeling of helping hundreds find a place to call their own.

Now I know there are many companies that encourage the recruiting new co workers through some sort of financial gain, but mine does not.

The simple satisfaction of promoting this profession and having it chock full of folks that will do it well, working with enthusiasm and integrity, simply makes my personal business prosper.

So, I wonder.

I'm a little frightened of taking the responsibility of getting someone else involved in this business . As we all know, the first couple of years (and well beyond often) can be an enormous struggle. Still, there's a young lady who is a client of mine, and I have often thought that her demeanor, composure and sense of humour would really stand her well in this business.

When a new agents comes for an interview I always give them the book by DAnielle Kennedy, tell them to get the book shift and invite them to their first board luncheon on me. Usually I cannot hire them because I have specifics and being a part of my office will lead to being a part of my team eventually which to me is an honor that I don't give out lightly.

Many people have told me I'd make a great agent, Carol Ann, but I know that there are certain things I just don't have the patience to deal with... and, it is not so easy for me to keep things from rolling off my tongue!  So, even though I've thought about it for a NY minute... in the end, I know it's not for me...  :D

Hi Cal,

I seem to run iinto the types who think in their minds that they would be great Realtors and these people believe it is an easy job to buy/sell homes. They also believe they will be huge producers with little work. These folks have no clue and some even admit they are not computer friendly? Here in Katy we have over 6 K Realtors and maybe a need for say 800 at most. The few I have run into with the correct skills already know they can make a lot more money somehwhere other than being Realtor. Commercial Real Estate is a potential.

Hi Malcolm.   I know what you mean about the struggle.

Hi Charles.  Still an encouragement.

Hi Peggy.   You are around enough of us!

Hi Bob.    That too.  The folks that think it's easy money kill me.

Thanks all for commenting!

Carol Ann, I do think they need to have 'push'...this business is not for the mild and meek anymore & being able to problem solve is an important attribute...I need a helper of sorts & have a couple on my radar too!

Cal,

What also just drives me crazy are these folks who think being a Realtor is an easy job and clients are just waiting for you and selling a home is so easy!

Hi Bob.   Unrealistic expectations!   When I first started the guy that hired me told me how much money I was going to make that year and I could not even fathom it.   Needless to say, I didn't come anywhere close.  Still don't.  haha.
