Downtown Portland Tree Lighting November 2012

The Holiday Festivals are starting to begn here in Portland town.  Soon sleigh bells will be ringing and carolers singing.

Here are a few events taking place downtown

November 17th - Pioneer Place Santa Arrival Parade | 10:00AM FREE

Join Pioneer Place and Pioneer Courthouse Square in welcoming Santa to Portland! He’ll be arriving to Pioneer Courthouse Square on Saturday, November 17th at 10:00AM. Join the fun in a family-friendly procession down SW Morrison to Pioneer Place. Get ready for a morning of songs, Santa and surprises!

November 23 - MACY'S Holiday Parade  | 9:00AM FREE

The annual Macy's Holiday Parade will take place on Friday, November 23, 2012 in downtown Portland.

The parade starts off at NW Park Ave. and NW Davis St. promptly at 9 a.m. and lasts approximately one hour.

The Macy's Holiday Parade route will begin at NW Park Ave. and NW Davis St., then travel east on NW Davis to Broadway, south on Broadway to SW Alder St, east on SW Alder St. (past Macy's) to SW 4th Ave., north on SW 4th Ave. to NW Flanders St., west on NW Flanders St. to NW Park Ave. for disband.

Horses, costumed characters, live marching bands, giant floats and of course . . . Santa!

November 23 -- Tree Lighting Ceremony presented by SmartPark| begins 5:30pm FREE

Be Merry at the Square! On the busiest shopping day of the year, the day after Thanksgiving, thousands of Portlanders will gather at Pioneer Courthouse Square to celebrate the official start of the season by lighting the City’s spectacular 75ft Douglas-fir tree provided by Stimson Lumber Company.

This is the 28th year of the Portland Tree Lighting Ceremony.  This year will feature a holiday sing-a-long featuring Portland’s own Thomas Lauderdale with members of Pink Martini and friends. With the 75 ft fir tree, 14,000 colorful lights and a festive community sing-a-long, this is an event you won’t want to miss in Portland’s living room.

I plan on being at Portland's Tree Lighting Ceremony, so watch for the photos!!  I REALLY hope they're planning on using colored lights this year.  They've been going with white for years now -- BORING!!
