Five Below but Beautiful

The temperature on the bank registered -5 as I drove to the Inwood Athletic Club this morning at 5:30.  Call me crazy, but I am beginning to enjoy my early morning workouts despite the shock of crawling out of a warm bed and being greeted by a wall of cold air as I leave the house.  This habit of rising early to sweat is a new one. . .though I have been a long time exerciser, I find that shaking up my schedule, renews my body and my mind.

The sun was rising as I ended my workout and I took some time to run a few errands. . .

The I&M canal runs through the city of Joliet and the banks are joined by a series of lovely draw bridges.  When it is a particularly cold day, steam rises from the canal as the warmer waters hit the frigid air.  Today was one of those days. . .here are a couple of pictures I snapped during my morning travels.

I'll go ahead and take you up on your offer.............you're crazy !  :-)

In all seriousness, good for you on exercising and I couldn't agree more that changing your schedule is a great way to motivate and invigorate.

Lori - I'm proud of you for braving the elements to make your way to the gym. Sounds like you're on a great track towards better health!  We lived in Mokena for 5 years. I remember that area well!

Nate -- This morning I was crazy AND frozen!

Kay -- We get our fair share of frigid temperatures here.  Funny thing is that it was 40 degrees a few weeks ago!  That's Illinios for you.

Rich -- I'm trying -- Mokena isn't that far at all. . .the bridges in Joliet are a pain when you are in a hurry and get caught with one up, but I think they are really lovely.

Lori,

No way would I be out there jogging in -5 degree weather. I'll get up early to exercise in my own home, and I do. I agree with you. Exercise is a great way to get the cogs moving in the morning and a great way to clear the cobwebs at other points during the day. Nice pictures...brrrrrr

You are one dedicated woman. I would NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER go out of the house that early to exercise if the weather was that cold!!! I can't even imagine!  Gorgeous pics!

Those temps and pics remind me a little of growing up in southern Wisconsin. One of my favorite winter memories was when my family would head to the indoor tennis club on weekends (but sometimes we had to shovel the driveway first)!
