Why Windows 8? Will it beat the ipad? Are you wondering where computers are going?

I was cruzing around Active Rains google and came across this awesome and informative post that I thought this was a must read for our tight community of Active Rain Real Estate Professionals.

Good Morning fellow Rainers.

You have probably noticed that Windows 8 has landed, this happened on Oct 26, and it is a major milestone for Microsoft.

Perhaps not so much for the obvious reason - a new OS release is a great step forward, but also for the integration of mobile in the PC structure.

There are two versions of this new OS to talk about right off the bat, Windows RT and Windows 8.

RT is a mobile OS, it is meant to be used with Apps on ARM processors and does not support legacy software (read your favorite old CD thing will not work). It does come with an office suite built in (no outlook).

Windows 8 is the full on Win OS, this will run legacy programs and will run ion Intel machines. And this is the work horse you will be looking for.

So - why get this? Well, it is quite simple really - do you have an ipad? Android tablet? Are the "limitations" getting a little frustrating? Wish you could have the tablet form factor with your regular desktop on it?

Yes, that is it, Samsung just put out the ATIV Smart PC $700... It is a convertible tablet, meaning you can get a full keyboard and make it like a laptop, but you can also use it as is as a tablet, full windows and a s-pen included to get your docs signed... If you live in San Diego or another place where the MLS is flash based, you just gained full desktop access.

I will write a few more overviews of this soon, so keep your eyes open for that.

I have to admit that Windows 8 has me a little nervous...maybe just an old dog here.  (Did I really say that?)  I will look forward to the rest of your reviews!
