Thanksgiving Events San Diego 2012
Thanksgiving weekend is the kick-off for many holiday events in San Diego; I've put together a few of my favorites.
For those of you that feel the need to get your exercise in before you sit down to that Thanksgiving feast, there are several charity runs that you can take part in on Thanksgiving morning.
Father Joe's Thanksgiving Day 5K Run/Walk - benefitting St. Vincent de Paul Village, San Diego's largest charity for the homeless. This event takes place in Balboa Park, starting time is 8am. Families, pets, and costumes are encouraged!
Oceanside Turkey Trot - benefitting Oceanside schools and charities. Now in its 7th year, the Oceanside Turkey Trot offers a 5 mile and 5K Run, and a 1 mile run for the kids. Last year's event saw 7,700 participants that ran through downtown Oceanside, the Oceanside Harbor, the Strand, and the Pier. 7am start time at the Oceanside Civic Center.
United Run For The Hungry - benefitting the San Diego Food Bank and Foodmobile. 10K Run and 5K Run/Walk through the Gaslamp District and East Village in downtown San Diego. 10K starts at 7:10am, 5K at 8:15am from Broadway Circle.
When asked why she ran on Thanksgiving Day, one runner was quoted "I run, so I can eat more pie." Makes perfect sense to me!
Ice Skating by the Sea - at the Hotel Del Coronado, Nov. 21, 2012-Jan. 1, 2013. The lawn at the Hotel Del is transformed into a beachside ice skating rink with a view of the Pacific Ocean for the holidays. Just add a cup of hot chocolate!
Holiday of Lights - at the Del Mar Fairground, Nov. 22, 2012-Jan. 1, 2013.
More than 400 animated, twinkling light displays around the Del Mar Racetrack make this event a night to remember.
Santa's Coming Arts and Crafts Fair - at Bates Nut Farm, Valley Center.
Nov. 23-25, 2012 from 9am-4pm. More than 80 artisans will be selling homemade crafts, jewelry and artwork. There will be music, food, the farm zoo for the kids, and of course, a visit to the General Store for some of their heavenly homemade fudge.
Julian Christmas Tree Lighting - at Pioneer Park, Julian. At the historic old mining town of Julian, the Christmas festivities start at 1pm and the Christmas Tree Lighting at 5pm.
I will keep you posted on more Christmas events, so check back with me soon!
