A Second Look at the Sandoval County Election Day Fiasco...
There seems to be no end in sight for the amount of blame that we can attribute to the Sandoval County Clerk for the recent voting line fiasco. It seems a lot of voters were disenfranchised and the blame stops squarely on the Sandoval County Clerk.
Well, Paul Harvey who coined the term, “the rest of the story.” Today I listened to an interview with the current New Mexico Secretary of State, and she has shed new light on this issue that has definitely absolve the Sandoval County Clerk.
Here are the facts:
The decision to have only five polling stations for Sandoval County was made last November.
Of the 33 counties in New Mexico, not all of them used the Convenience Centers like Bernalillo County elected to use.
Each County was given the choice of how to administer local polling. They present their requirements to the state, which then provides the resources.
So there was record turnout for early voting in the state, especially Bernalillo County; I am curious to know what percentage of the 80 thousand registered voters voted early.
Why wasn’t the alarm sounded a year ago when for example the City of Bernalillo with a population of one-tenth the population of Sandoval County requested the same number of polling stations and voting machines.
I am not defending the Sandoval County Clerk, but all of this information was known for one year. The situation could have been fixed. Why wasn’t it fixed?
