NEW 2013 TAX in GEORGIA
Georgia Car Title Tax Change
CAR INFORMATION ON A REAL ESTATE SITE? Well, yes, don't we all use our cars all the time? Won't a GEORGIA CAR TITLE TAX CHANGE effect all of us in Georgia? How could we do our real estate work without our vehicles?
The GEORGIA CAR TITLE TAX CHANGE is major and the change will effect everyone. The tax will be due on all vehicle purchases on or after March 1, 2013. The vehicle purchase will be taxed at the vehicle's value as determined by the State of Georgia regardless of what you paid for the vehicle. Purchases from individuals as well as purchases from dealers fall into the same category.
After the purchase, when you go to the County office to register the vehicle and get your Title, you will have to pay the new tax due from the GEORGIA CAR TITLE TAX CHANGE before you get the Title in your name.
For those who may want to estimate the new tax to be paid, the Georgia Department of Revenue prepared an information sheet that is interactive. The calculations there are for an estimate ONLY. Your county will determine the amount for your GEORGIA CAR TITLE TAX CHANGE for whatever vehicle you have purchased based on the State's data and the County's data. If you aready own a car, the process stays the same as always.
Yes, there are exceptions and, yes, they are complicated. One complication - the cars already in one's possession. However, the changes are fully spelled out in the many publications that are available. Want to know more? Gwinnett County even offers the video below to explain the process.
Hope you enjoy listening to and watching the whole explanation. It will be interesting to hear folks talk about the changes over the next couple of years.
Have a happy day -
Lynn
