A lot of planning and preparation goes into buying or selling a home. Once you've made it through the offer, negotiations, and finally the closing you will have to be ready for the move. Doing it yourself can be overwhelming and exhausting, even for a local move. If you want a seemingly effortless move, it might be a good idea to hire a professional moving company. But, how do you know if you're choosing the right one? Dave of A1 Best Movers gives the following advice:
-
Verify that the moving company is fully insured, including cargo coverage.
-
Ask to see the company's TXDOT card (in Texas) or state registration.
-
Confirm that background checks are run on all employees.
-
Check with the Better Business Bureau.
Don't forget the obvious! Ask for references. You will want to find out from previous customers if the company provided quality service and if they were careful with their belongings during the move. There's nothing worse than getting to your new home and finding out your furniture has been damaged, or even lost. The moving company should be more than willing to provide references, but be sure to check other sources as well...like online reviews.
Some other things you will want to find out is if the company provides packing services, if they will break down and reassemble furniture, and if they have a checklist of things you need to do before they arrive. Most importantly, make sure you confirm the billing process before the move begins. You should be able to get a written in-home estimate, plus information about additional or incidental charges.
