THREE STAGING MISTAKES OWNERS MAKE!

#1  MISTAKE IS SIMPLY HAVING TOO MUCH STUFF IN THE HOUSE!

EVEN USEFUL STUFF IS STILL STUFF, EVEN EXPENSIVE STUFF IS STILL STUFF!

STUFF GETS IN THE WAY OF SPACE.  THE ONLY THING THAT WILL MAKE A SELLER MORE MONEY IS TO SHOW THE BUYER  MORE SPACE AND LOTS OF IT!

MOST HOMEOWNERS SURROUND THEMSELVES WITH ABOUT 1/3 MORE STUFF THAN THEY ACTUALLY EVER USE.  STUFF IS LITTLE ITEMS, BIG ITEMS, AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN.

FOR STAGING TAKE AWAY 1/3 TO 1/2 OF FURNISHINGS IN THE HOUSE.  I HEAR YOU GASPING NOW!

#2 STAGING MISTAKE IS THE HOUSE LOOKS OUTDATED.

I didn't say you were outdated.  It is simply things that are outdated.  House Furnishings color and pattern change from year to year.

#3 STAGING MISTAKE IS KEEPING ROOMS TOO DARK.

Dark comes in paint colors, heavy curtains, no lamps.

Buyers who can't see won't remember anything other than some dark rooms.

Beverly-Those top three mistakes and several other smaller mistakes ary reasons why Sellers should use a qualified stager when getting the home ready for sale. I know it costs money and all Sellers cannot afford a Stager to do the entire home, but most Stagers will do a consult that does not cost as much as a complete staging project. An extra set of experienced eyes can help shorten the time on market. That's how one can compute the back.

These are good tips. Sellers are very reluctant to de-clutter and it just causes them time and money.

Hi Beverly, you got it right about what sellers are looking for:  space, and lots of it!  I encourage my sellers who are living in their homes while they're on the market to put at least half of everything into storage.

Wayne, I couldn't agree more than a professional stager or a Realtor who does staging can help a homeowner save time and make more money in the sale of their home.

Wayne, yes decluttering is the way to save time and money!

Maureen,  yes,  it is fascinating how much stuff can be put into a house.  Selling is all about the space.

Beverly - all excellent points, and so easy to fix!  My personal fav is the lack of lamps.  I'm always amazed at how people live without lights!
