Laramie, WY: Yes, Its Cold . . . at least we don't have Cockroaches!

As soon as I say Laramie doesn't have Cockroach animationcockroaches, I'm sure someone else will have a tale to refute my claim.  But as long as I've lived here (31 years) at many different locations (18) I have personally never seen an actual, live, "wild" cockroach.  As a  matter of fact I don't think I've ever seen one anywhere - even on my travels . . .

I've had friends who had cockroaches hitch a ride in their belongings when they made a move from another climate. However, it was easy enough for them to get rid of the beasts once they settled in here.  For whatever reason, they didn't propagate and invade the whole town or even their house and were soon gone for good.

We have only one exterminator listed in the phone book and even he drives over from Cheyenne.

How can we have such good fortune?

I view it as our reward for living in this cold, barren, windswept place...

(But, really.... Laramie isn't all that bad... L.O.L.)

Brenda I always thought it was the cowboy boots that explained why there were no cockroaches in COWBOY COUNTRY???   Trap that roach in the corner of a room and stick that pointed cowboy boot  into the corner to squish that sucker!!!

I think you have a great place to live.  I will never forget driving through your area and then driving through the Snowy Mountains to take the back way into Colorado.

Brenda, I have to say I would not be unhappy if I never saw one of these ugly critters ever again. We didn't have them when I grew up in Germany and had never even heard of one much less seen one until I moved to the US. But we arm ourselves with bug sprays and a shoe if necessary and fight back to keep our home free of these pests.

Hi Brenda,

Well California has cockroaches and we get many from the ships coming into port in Los Angeles and also in the crates then they are shipped all over the state and to other states also. Most of us do not have them but they find homes in apartments, retail businesses and warehouses. They are pretty ugly though!

That's good to know, Kristen, from the commercials on TV you'd think they were invading the continent!

As a property manager I have seen way to many cockroaches. It is amazing what people will live in/with.

Brenda~I hope the same is true of bed bugs and Laramie, Wyoming! Though I've never seen a live bed bug, I certainly have seen live cockroaches. I list REO houses, after all. Cockroaches and fleas abound in Missouri...

Hello, Liz - we have had renters that brought bed bugs in so that was kind of a big job to eliminate those.  I guess those particular critters (bedbugs) can survive just about anywhere . . .

Steve - That is true!  Maybe I could welcome cockroaches if we had your climate to go with it . .
