Stinky Twinkies

First and foremost, I find it despicable that Union management will not allow the rank and file to vote on whether they wanted to return to work under the Hostess proposals.  Voting is an essential element to a free system.  Of course there are those that infringe upon that and out voting system is rife with corruption…141% of the voters in a district in St Lucie County Florida voted??? However, to not allow the rank and file to vote is a disgrace.

I had the privilege of being in the National Football Association Players Association (NFLPA) . A very powerful union.  I witnessed first-hand that every time a Collective Bargaining Agreement comes up for renewal, the union tries to get more and more for its members.  Eventually the ability to give runs out and management takes a stand. Owners are entitled to a profit. If you do not like, it, become an owner!!! In fact, many former professional athletes are now team owners.

I wondered about unemployment claims for the Stinky Twinkie malcontents. Yup, you guessed it, they have to wait one week prior to collecting benefits! THEY CHOSE NOT TO WORK!!! They shut a company down and 18,000+ people are now out of work because of them. Other union members from other unions chose to work and they are now unemployed. THEY should receive benefits. HOWEVER, the Confectionary Union member that walked off of the job and picketed, are now getting benefits.

I truly do not recognize this country anymore…rewarding negative behavior…encouraging workers to not work and shut down a company. Did you see the video of the woman vociferously screaming to “SHUT IT DOWN” (the company). Truly pathetic.  She is now out of work and there are no more contributions to her beloved pension. Watch what ya wish for lady!!

Let’s keep this in perspective..these are not highly skilled workers. The shove a creamy concoction into a sugary biscuit and they want high pay, health benefits and pension.

Bob Beckel (Buffoon extraordinaire) points out that they were underpaid.  Really?? High stress job that requires no skill..Hmmm, yup, they should make $50/hr..no question.

The narrow thinking…they will now be unemployed for at least a year…not a high demand for people that cram cream into a biscuit. The thinking is that another company will come in and open the plant and the workers will be hired. Maybe!! How many YEARS will it take them to make up for the money they lost while on strike??? YEARS. Great move folks.

I completely agree that Unions have gotten out of control and are causing jobs to dry-up.  Owners have a right to make money....it is their company and their money on the line if anything goes wrong.  However, I believe owners have a duty and a moral responsibility to take care of their workers with respect and proper pay.  But I also think people should have a desire to work and do a good job and stop asking for more and more, thereby causing their own selves to be out of work.  Unions are America's problem to getting the economy back on track....they are rifled with corruption and do not give their members basic rights, ie voting and a choice as to whether or not their dues should be spent on political donations.  So that Union did a great job....yep, 18,000 people out of work!!!

April I agree 100%...I did some research and teh workers made $15/hr.  Bt they are b=not fulfilling any dofficult task and they also had pension benefits, health insurance, Medi-gap insurance. How many $15.hr employees get that??

Unfortunately many unions are not acting in the best interest of the workers. For them to not believe that the company would have to shut down and that everyone would be out of a job is just plain stiupid.

Paddy -- I don't have problem with the other union workers who were put out of work by the Confectioners' Union getting their unemployment.  However, I think the Confectioners' Union should be paying their members, until they get new employment -- after all it was the union leadership who said the proposal wasn't good enough.  Maybe we should see what can be done about changing unemployment laws to that effect.
