2012 Siesta Key Crystal Classic Sparkles With Imagination! The third annual Siesta Key Crystal Classic was held November 8th through 12th on beautiful Siesta Key Beach here in Sarasota, FL. Over the sunny Sarasota weekend, and under stunning blue skies, the crystalline sands of Siesta Key Beach were magically transformed into magnificent sand sculptures.
Twenty-four artisans, both local and from around the world, traveled to Siesta Key Beach to create their masterpieces in sand for one weekend. After an additional day on Monday for the public to view them, these ephemeral creations were bulldozed and pulverized back into level beach sand. Just like the recent Sarasota Chalk Festival these incredible and painstaking works of art are only created for a few shining moments. That is the nature of both festivals.
Proceeds from the Siesta Key Crystal Classic supports the local Mote Marine Laboratory's research programs and sea turtle conservation. Previous festivals drew as many at 70,000 attendees, and this year's Siesta Key Crystal Classic received similar attendance. The beautiful weather and the No. 1 Beach in the United States only added to the eye-popping experience.
The 2012 Siesta Key Crystal Classic is just one of many unique festivals that add to the allure of Sarasota, FL and one more reason to make Sarasota, FL your home.
