Are You A RELATOR? NO! I am NOT.

Many words in the English language are mangled, butchered and twisted every day. None drives me crazier than the mispronunciation of REAL-TOR as RE-LA-TOR. A few even carry  it one giant leap further by insisting that it’s Re-all-tor. Why, oh why? Can someone enlighten me as to why so many people do not pronounce REALTOR® correctly.

REALTORUnfortunately, the mispronunciation of REALTOR is not limited to the general public. Many card carrying members of the National Association of REALTORS® are guilty. The mispronouncing offenders are not limited to any particular gender, class, income or national origin.

I have gotten this issue off my chest for today; however, I’m certain that oft mispronounced word is going to rear its ugly head very, very soon.

Bernadette, I know of many a Realtor who go crazy when the word is mispronounced--especially by other Realtors!  It is mispronounced a lot of times by people in our industry.  Amazing.

Bernadette, this is too funny. But very old. Many do not realize and it takes articles like this one to put the word out.

It is so easy for folks to mispronounce Realtor... for some strange reason it is easier for them to and that extra vowel in there.   After experiencing some rough times with other Realtors.... I am thinking I might use "Real-turd" to define their professionalism.
