Black Friday?? Nothing BLACK about it here in Palm Springs!

palm springs valley real estate for saleI understand the meaning..black Friday.  Has to do with shopping.  Let me get this right..I've saved up my money and my time specifically to go out either very late at night or very early in the morning to "score" a deal at a local store.  What is wrong with this picture???  Well, here a few things I can think of without much deep thought...

1.  Massive groups of people flinging items about searching for that one particular color, size, shape etc.  Ugh!

2.  Long Lines everywhere..again,  Ugh!

3.  Parking blocks and blocks away from the stores.  Yep..that does sound inviting.

4.  Fighting to find a chair to sit in when your back or legs start aching.  Cannot wait for that one.

5.  Dealing with the frenzied and understaffed store staff.  That sounds absolutely smashing!

..good grief.  Don't get it, never have and never will.  I think I'll just go outside in the 85 degree, sunny, balmy Palm Springs weather and perhaps take a walk.  Maybe a quick swim?  Preview some properties?  Ride my bike?  Sit under the umbrella with my laptop catching up on work?  ANYTHING is better than battling the Black Friday shoppers.

I do NOT get it!  It's Sunday and the shopping frenzy has subsided a bit from what I hear. I wouldn't actually know because on Black Friday weekend, I get as far away from it all as possible. I live in La Quinta, a haven of the Palm Springs Valley..every single day is a Holiday.  Black Friday...what????

our local WalMart had no demonstrators, loads of deals, plenty of parking and US Marines outside keeping the peace and manning Toys for Tots booths....

I could NOT agree more.  I did a drive-by of a couple of areas in Leesburg Friday.

I drove by the Wal-Mart to see if there were demonstrators.  None.

I also drove by the outlet mall in Leesburg.  A mile of cars waiting in line to get in the parking lot.  Good grief.  How long are those folks going to spend in line to get in the lot, one car at a time.

Not for me.  In fact, when I shop, I make a point of going during the week, during the day, mid-week when the store traffic is the lowest.

It's the civilized thing to do.

Kim, I agree!  While it was warmer this year, it was still about 26 degrees while shoppers were waiting to get in to the stores here for those bargains.  Some years it has been below zero!  Your 85 degrees there at least takes away one of the unbearable conditions.

I also enjoyed reading your Coachella Valley, Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Palm Desert profile and testimonials and love your tie in to real estate "gut" feelings of taking a second look with that of buying a polo horse to train!
