Holiday gift giving is always a challenge. Some years I go with a baseline theme such as animals. Then I give give certificates to the San Diego Zoo. Other years I have opted for marine life and Sea World or Scripps Aquarium gift certificates. For young children I make or purchase items suitable for their ages. Whenever possible I prefer to gift experiences as opposed to more sneeds.
An experience that would make a fun gift has caught my eye in San Diego. It is Wine and Canvas. These are one night art classes that meet to recreate a famous masterpiece of art. Sometimes they create other types of art too. They also have craft nights and cookies and canvas. It is a great excuse to get out of the house and enjoy some time being creative with no pressure to do so.
San Diego has many lovely views to draw and paint. Now that the winter season is upon us we don't have as much day light to soak in. Painting indoors in the evening is appealing because it will get me off the couch and away from the remote.
Wine and Canvas is opening up classes in many cities. Check their site to see if your city is on the list yet. They also offer private parties.
Many of the instructors at Wine and Canvas in San Diego also work at the Children's Museum downtown. That museum is basically my back yard. My boys and I visit it weekly. I'm looking forward to taking a class and being the one that is covered in paint at class instead of cleaning up my boys after they take a dip.
