Okay, you may be tired of hearing about St. Kitts so I will share my day trip to Nevis, St. Kitts' sister island as pointed out by Gail Robinson of Fairfield CT., who remembered her encounter with the monkeys on Nevis.

To get to Nevis it was as short ferry ride. Similar to going to St. John from St. Thomas they have a car ferry. You just drive on and the boat takes you over and you drive off.

Both St. Kitts and Nevis have volcanoes on them, they have not erupted in more than thirty years but there are always clouds hoovering over the openings to them. The view of St. Kitts half way through the passage was impressive as were the homes as you enter harbor in Nevis.

The peacock or a peahen as I was corrected;  was just hanging out on the wall of a home we passed. The female version indicated by it's less colorful plumage, but nonetheless beautiful. I could not see the rest of this bird's tail. I suspect I was right in my description of it. It appears to have the more exotic feathers they were just not displayed at the time of the photo. When the feathers are shed, they are collected to make into Carnival wear.

We circled the island and saw the windmills against the surf and the sheep grazing in the field. The cost of electricity is very high in Nevis and St. Kitts another similarity with the Virgin Islands so it makes sense to have alternative sources of energy. I did observe solar hot water heaters and panels at different times as well.

Nevis is the birth place of Alexander Hamilton the first Secretary of Treasury during George Washington's Presidency. He had family ties to St. Croix in the Virgin Islands and spent his formative years on St. Croix.

Nevis has it's own airport. It is my guess only smaller craft can land there.

One of our last stops was a bath house where you could soak in water warmed by the volcano. It was quite hot, but not uncomfortably so. As with sulfur springs the water is alleged to have healing qualities.

I did not photograph the Four Season Resort  but there is one on Nevis and we did go by it.

I hope you have enjoyed. It was a very pleasant trip for us.
