The day before Thanksgiving is known as a huge grocery shopping day in the United States.
In Branson, The Tri-Lakes Board of Realtors assist with the Food Harvest by providing shoppers with lists of items needed for the food pantry. Realtors across the area provided the grocery lists at participating grocery stores and Wal-Mart stores. The grocery bags of donations are accepted as the shoppers leave the store, then loaded onto trucks for delivery to the food pantries. Cash donations were also accepted, as well as food donations. Food and cash donations are continuing to be accepted after the community event.
Branson is a tourist mecca, with 8 million visitors per year. Christmas in the Ozarks ends in late December, as the last of the tourist season. There are many seasonal workers in the Branson area that are employed in the hotels, restaurants and theaters. The local food pantries provide much needed assistance to the seasonal workers from mid-December to mid-March.
