IMSD secret: 2 places to blog* real estate...
pssst here's TOP secret information from an IMSD webinar (that is Internet Marketing Specialist designation) IMSD information about where to blog? The word "blog*" is a verb in that sentence.
Two places to BLOG real estate
1. Your WordPress.org site
2. ActiveRain*
IMSD is the Internet Marketing Specialist Designation. IMSD is a sister company to ActiveRain. Perhaps IMSD has a bias toward ActiveRain. I took the IMSD blogging webinar yesterday. I have been blogging since 2005 but I still got a lot out of the blogging webinar.
You are cordially invited**
Want to take the IMSD classes? IMSD invite
Want to become an ActiveRain Member? ActiveRain invite
I am an Ambassador for ActiveRain so I am biased too.
I have two WordPress.org websites as well. How do you as a real estate agent / mortgage person decide where to blog? There are plenty of places to blog about real estate. Every other day it seems the next real estate network springs up and tries to be ActiveRain... The next shiny object.
The IMSD invite link above currently has a discount on the class. IMSD and ActiveRain work well together.
Other real estate blogging options:
How about Blogger.com? Blogger.com is Google! Chad Hyams (the voice of IMSD) still said that Blogger.com was not one of the two places to blog real estate. I had a Blogger.com blog in early 2006, but I got rid of it after a few weeks.
How about blogging on WordPress.com? It's confusing but if you are geeky enough you want to be on WordPress.org NOT WordPress.com Chad said so in the IMSD webinar on blogging. I have always thought WordPress.org was the way to go from the search engine perspective. I have seen people start a WordPress.com blog and convert it to a WordPress.org site later. Or abandon it... WordPress.com sites do not have the plugins that WordPress.org have. The WordPress symbol is used for both WordPress.com and WordPress.org.
Tumblr.com ? I have NEVER had a Tumblr site! Tumblr does not have the plugins that WordPress.org has.
Those are blogging options that have real estate sites as well as other blogs. There are other places to blog...
Real estate blogs
Does your real estate website have a blog built in? Maybe that is an option for you.
What about a real estate network like the RealTown blogs? RealTown is where I started blogging in 2005. My posts on my RealTown site still show up in search engines... I do not blog there now. Internet Crusade / RealTown is a real estate community like ActiveRain but smaller.
I wondered during the IMSD webinar what the e PRO certification is recommending agents use as their real estate blog these days. I got my e PRO certification long ago before I had ever heard of real estate blogs. I would imagine they ePRO recommend WordPress.org too. Anyone taken the ePRO cert classes recently? Who do they recommend?
Blogger.com, WordPress.com, Tumbr, your real estate website, RealTown blogs or hundreds of other options were NOT the two options recommended in the IMSD webinar I listened to. The two places to blog are WordPress.org and ActiveRain.com ... this will be our little secret. I hope I don't get in trouble for letting the cat out of the bag... this IMSD secret.
Decisions Decisions: Which of the Two places to BLOG real estate?
How do you decide which to use WordPress.org or ActiveRain.com ???
1. WordPress.org
If you are really, really geeky why not try WordPress.org? You own it all. The site is all you. You can make a WordPress.org site into more than a blog. You can use the WordPress.org plugins.
2. ActiveRain.com
If you need a community to learn how to blog start on ActiveRain. If you want hyperlocal content to show up in Google FAST, ActiveRain RainMaker works. If you don't know what hyperlocal content is, you probably need ActiveRain.
Know that unless you upgrade to a RainMaker account your content is not visible to the general public or search engines but for some newbies that is a blessing in disguise. As you learn to blog and use social media as a member of ActiveRain, the cost to become a RainMaker goes down.
It's Time for Us to Give Back RainMaker Price Breaks
The two links in this post are referrals to IMSD and ActiveRain.com** from me.
In the real Estate industry but not a member yet? Join ActiveRain try the non RainMaker account for free Members Only Content. Accumulate points. The cost of RainMaker goes down as you accumulate ActiveRain points. Learn about blogging and social media from your peers. Or take the IMSD classes, they'll tell you this secret...The two places to BLOG real estate!
