A new professional soccer team is coming to Loudoun County. On November 5, 2012, at the Loudoun Soccer Park in Leesburg, VA, an announcement was made that the NASL will be welcoming a new team to its league. The team is set to begin play in 2014. Current plans are for the team to share a stadium with the Loudoun Hounds baseball team that will be built in the One Loudoun development in Ashburn, VA. Team development appears to be in the early stages. However, the team has named a Director of Soccer Operations. The Director of Soccer Operations will be Mark Simpson. Mark is a former goalkeeper and assistant coach for D.C. United of Major League Soccer. Check out an interesting interview with David D’Onofrio, Entertainment Director of Communications and Mark Simpson, Director of Soccer Operations for VIP Sports & Entertainment here. NASL Virginia is in the process of naming the team and is accepting recommendations from the public. If you have an idea for a good team name, you can submit your idea to the team at naslvirginia.com. The team also has a social media presence. You can connect with NASL Virginia via twitter @NASLVirginia. You can also check out their Facebook page at facebook.com/NaslVirginia. In fact, NASL Virginia has posted many pictures from the announcement event on their Facebook page. Personally, I’m very excited that professional soccer is coming to Loudoun County. I’ve been playing soccer ever since I was little and I’m still a huge fan. I can’t wait until the first game.
