WHAT IS "SERP"? It's the Secret to Advertising Our Real Estate Services on the NET!!

A great post from Lenn on optimizing your blog posts.

Start with the title...those should be the key words that you think customers will search for.  If you want your customers to find you, don't go for clever titles; go for key words.  Think about what they will search for and that's your title. Write your article around that.

Support it with a key headline.  My reco is to reuse the key words in there, but don't repeat the title.  Mix it up a bit so it reads better for the customer.  This will also help you get some other key word combos in there.

SERP.  Search Engine Results Position.  What does that mean?

It means that, when a person searches for information on Google, they use certain search phrases.  Does the content of your blog post or web site MATCH the phrases that consumers use to SEARCH GOOGLE???

IS IT A MATCH?  If your ActiveRain article, especially the TITLE, is a match. . .  Eureka!!  Your post will show up in the Treasureconsumer's search results on Google.

Inspired by a great article by Brenda Mullen, Do I "Sound" Funny When I Write-Key Words in Blogging,

The "Treasure" isn't what you write.  The real "Treasure" is the consumer contact from what you write.

YOU DON'T REALLY HAVE TO SOUND "FUNNY" TO BE AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE ON GOOGLE SERP!!

In fact, about 4-5 years ago, I recall that Google slowly began to give more credit to articles, web sites, etc. that used "natural language".   Google has always discouraged keyword stuffing.

One thing for sure, Google will recognize "keyword stuffing"  Think you can outsmart mother Google?  Go ahead and try.

HA!  I've been working keyword phrases into my writings for so long now, it became a writing reflex many years ago.

From reading many ActiveRain posts, it's clear that many members don't understand that the TITLE of their posts and a few keyword phrases (where, what, who, when) would increase their Google search results, which is, of course, where we are found by consumers.  After all, for whom are we writing the posts??  If you're blogging for business, you're writing for the consumer who is going to find you on Google or a social network site.  I still believe that Google is where search power lies and that's my first consideration.  I know that a consumer "likes" me when they call me for real estate information or help.

Write a good title FIRST and then get "cute" in the body of the content.

InternetWHAT WOULD THE CONSUMER SEARCH FOR?  It helps to be able to simply put yourself in the mind of a consumer.  What is the consumer searching for??  Use that information in your blog title and THAT will give you good SERP.

GOT A PHOTO OR IMAGE?  A colorful photo or image doesn't hurt either.  Folks will stay a tad longer if the post is pleasing to the eye.  A wall of words is NOT appealing to most readers.  THAT is one thing that separates Google from humans.   Of course, if you have a photo or image in your article, that image or photo will be indexed in Google Images.  Yippee!!!

Web pages benefit from a MATCH of relevant PAGE TITLES and content and meta TITLES and Descriptions.  THAT is a lot easier than many SEO experts would have you believe.  In fact, it's fundamental since Google doesn't really read your web pages.  Google reads the source code and especially the META TAGS.

IT'S MY JOB!!  Writing an ActiveRain blog post shouldn't be hard work.  For me, it's just a part of my job.  Yes, I blog for business.  Advertising my real estate services in in my job description, my business plan and ON MY DAILY SCHEDULE.

Of course, folks who read my blog will soon know that I blog because it's fun, a good way to express ideas (who else listens to us???) and . . . .

IT'S MY JOB.

Debbie.  Good info.  This is really as lot less complicated that many believe.  Simple minded titles, headers and keywords are not complicated.

It is so important to get the right title on every blog. In the beginning of my blogging career, I just didn't see the importance, but as time went along, it made a tremendous difference.

Debbie:  I guess SERP has two definitions, then.  The one Lenn has given, and also another definition:  Search Engine Results Page... which is the listing of all of the results returned by a serach engine in response to a keyword query.
