A HELPING HANDA HOUSE FOR A HOMELESS MOM...A PAIR OF BOOTS FOR A HOMELESS MAN...

Two weeks ago, just around Thanksgiving time, I had a call from a young woman who was looking for a house to rent. I took her to see the only listing I could find in her price range and it seemed to fit the bill for her. She met the owner and rented the house immediately and there the story began.

Some of you may recall the post that I wrote ....I wrote it and then took it down because several comments from other members made me think that I was revealing too much information. So, even though I did not use her name and did not give out any information about her location or where she works, I decided to remove the post and put it in draft form until I could feel comfortable to publish it again.

My emotional state at the time was connected to something that happened many years ago---and the cleft that was left in my life because I was unable to help my sister when she needed me so....

Now is the time to read it again, in my opinion, because we are the only hope for so many out there in the world right now. We CAN help others in ways that are immeasurable. A fellow agent who is a dear friend made a suggestion that we should "Adopt A Family" and select this young woman and her children to "adopt", so we will do that next week.

After seeing the story in the news about the man with no shoes on the streets of New York and how the young man, a New York City policeman, bought him a pair of boots and socks. He kneeled down and helped him to put them on, right there on the freezing cold sidewalk in Manhattan...and the world saw what he did without him knowing it.

We will survive only if we, as human beings realize the importance of helping each other; just as this young man did, we do have an obligation to help, to stop the suffering that is so visible right now in this world!

That was the important message I got from my experience that day--and it all comes around when we have nothing to do but to help or  to walk away....I know you will NOT walk away when a situation like this presents itself!

Paula: I loved that story of the single mom and children whom you helped rent a house. Can you maybe get her approval to put it up? Maybe she will even allow a photo. She sounds like a wonderful person and not one who would be ashamed of getting a helping hand.

John: Thanks so much for reading this..I had a hard time after I wrote the post on Thanksgiving and decided to take it down; now it is the time to get it out there again. After I saw the policeman with the man with no shoes it dawned on me that the aspect of "giving" and the compassion that surrounds it is universal and is not an individual act. It is an act of kindness that, once visualized or expressed will duplicate itself, over and over and over again!

Paula, I clicked on your link but the story wasn't there. I also agree we have an obligation to help others. Sometimes it's hard to figure out what that looks like.

Paula I remember well your recent post and it touched me to the bottom of my heart. I also saw the story of the officer giving the shoes to the homeless man......giving is a gift.  You've got that giving gift - big time my dear!  And I look forward to hearing that that lady and her 3 kids have found a happy and safe new life.

Hi Anna: Thank you for saying that---she has found a house and I am working on collecting some money for her so she will have a nice Christmas for her kids--What a lovely family! She has what it takes, I think to make it through this awful time--I just hope she remains safe!
