Are YOU a PART-Time or FULL-Time Agent?

By
Real Estate Agent with Dockside Realty VA 0225142975

Please let me know what you mean by a PART-time agent.

Please also let me know what you mean by a FULL-time agent.

Do you determine an agent's status by

  • the number of transactions they do in a year?
  • the amount of money they earn?
  • the awards they receive?
  • the reputation they have?
  • the designations they have?
  • the number of years they've been in the business?

FOR ME A

  • Full-time agent is one that provides their client with all of the services they have agreed to and then some.

Even if that agent has very few clients, if they do everything they possibly can to find the right home for their buyer or they provide the best marketing plan (which definitely includes pricing it correctly) and will go the extra step to make sure the house sells.  A full-time agent finds the time to perform to the best of their ability.

A full-timer is also one that, among other things, keeps current with changes in their market place, with laws that affect real estate, takes courses over and above required continuing ed, trys to keep up with technology vital to real estate, and someone that really enjoys their chosen profession.

AND A

  • Part-time agent may only have a very few clients or may work many dozens of clients.

Some agents spend the minimum amount of time and effort with their customers and clients.  I don't care how many hours they put into promoting themselves, how much time and effort they put into looking for the next client, what counts is how well they take care of each and every customer and client they currently have.  If they do not, they are part-timers in my book because they have only given part of themselves.

Often, for part-timers, continuing education means taking only the required number of hours, relying on word of mouth when it comes to zoning changes, new laws, etc.

QUALITY TRUMPS QUANTITY WHEN IT COMES TO TIME SERVICING THE NEEDS OF EACH AND EVERY CLIENT

What do you consider yourself and why?

A part time realtor does their clients a disservice.  They are not up on the latest market trends, pitfalls, inventory or marketing methods.

You can measure success multiple ways - but that depends on your personality.

There should only be full time agents and inactive agents.

As a broker, I tend to gauge the value of an agent based on productivity. Productivity is the key.

Hi Kathleen,
I think the way most people define full -time agents is "one whose primary job is the practice of real estate".  I think most people define part- time agents as "one who has a primary job other than real estate".  That said, I know some part-time agents who do a better job, are more productive and represent their clients better than some full-time agents.
Full-time or part-time does not matter---it's the commitment and service provided to clients that matters.

Full time only.  This job cannot be done by a part timer.  No ones best interest can be served that way.  It isn't fair to the clients, the other agents, the brokers, the attorneys, the lenders, processors or anyone associated with the deal.

Gary...Well, that's something to consider.  Although that's not the way it is set up and I don't see any signs of it heading in that direction.

Cheers from Lake Anna,

Kathleen

Derrick...Is productivity determined by number of transactions or dollar amount of commissions earned?

Thanks for your comment.  I'll be interested in knowing your answer.

Cheers,

Kathleen

Cynthia...I spent way too many words saying exactly what you said in just a few.  That's exactly what I was getting at.  Not so much if it is your primary job or not but the fact that it may not be a matter of how many hours you "work" at real estate but how you work.

Thanks for understanding where I was trying to go with this post.

Many cheers from Lake Anna,

Kathleen

Jim...evidently I didn't do a very good job of explaining myself.  I work fewer hours than many of my fellow agents but have a productive (at least enough for me) business and clients that come back to list and buy and list again though the years.  It's how I served them that mattered to them not how many hours I clocked in at the office.

Cheers,

Kathleen
