THE DROUGHT AND TANK LESS WATER HEATERS

It has been a bit dry for the last couple of years here in North, and South Carolina.  Many regional municipalities have placed restrictions on water usage.  Assuming this drought does end and I feel safe to say that it will eventually end as all of the previous droughts have.  I don't think this one will ever go away.  This is why.  Many towns along the rivers in the southeast all depend on the water that collects in rivers and flows down stream.  As more development depends on this resource it begins to place more of a strain on the rivers.  A river only has so much water to give and that depends on rainfall.

I think we are going to have to come up with a solution to the usage problem.  Many cities have wastewater recycling.  This means that sewage water, and many other sources are reused as drinking water.  Of course it is cleaned very well.  I received and email from a friend today that suggested the drinking water from municipalities had a good bit of solids in it.  Inert solids I don't think we, as consumers want to know about.

This led me to what I think could be part of the solution.  Ever stand at the sink to brush you teeth in the morning and wait for the water to turn warm before even putting your hand to it?  I'll bet you have done that all of you life just as I have.  This is because most of us are using old tech water heaters.  The ones that are just big water tanks!  If we could all change to tank less water heaters we would no doubt save trillions of gallons of fresh water every year.  While we are waiting for the water to get warm we are wasting everything that goes down the drain.  With tank less we would have hot water on demand.  Now that's good service, conservation, and economy.  Now that you don't have to heat all of that extra water you'll save on your monthly power bill, and the electric company will not have to produce as much power.  What a deal!
