Treat Children to a Theater Experience this Season
Christmas Carol at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park - Charles Dickens' most famous book comes to life for the 22nd year in the Playhouse's production. Ebenezer Scooge undergoes a miraculous transformation after the appearance of four persuasive ghosts. If you want to see some pictures of how the special effects are produced, take a look at my backstage tour. Purchase tickets at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park.
Santa's Toy Factory at Children's Theater of Cincinnati - This brand new holiday musical showing at Taft Theatre, follows the elves as they prepare for Santa's toy deliveries,...however, the "spirit meter" is running low! How will Santa's sleigh be able to take off, if the meter doesn't reach its top level? Remind yourself and those you love about the real meaning of Christmas at this show. Runs from December 7-15. Purchase tickets at Children's Theatre.
Amahl and the Night Visitors with Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra and the Madcap Puppets -
The story of the crippled boy, Amahl and his encounter with the Three Wise Men looking for the Christ child is retold by Madcap Puppets. The heart-warming opera brings the story to life with their oversized characters. Featured will be the complete orchestra, plus choir, and vocal soloists. This Christmas gift for the city will be held at Xavier University on December 21-23. Purchase tickets through the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra.
Alice in Wonderland at Ensemble Theater - Local playwright, Joseph McDonough's play returns to the theater with its exuberant music and lyrics. Continuing the yearly tradition of bringing fractured fairy tales to Cincinnati audiences, this holiday's production is getting rave reviews for its portrayal of this cherished story and sassy costuming. Runs through December 30. Check out the schedule and order tickets at Ensemble Theater.
The Nutcracker with Cincinnati Ballet - Combine the music of Tchaikovsky with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Cincinnati Ballet and you have a performance to remember. A fantasy where toys come to life, flowers pirouette, sweets waltz, mice dance and Gingerbread men become soldiers telling a wonderful story of Christmas dreams. My favorite dance is when the children emerge from Mother Gigogne's skirts. Performances start December 14th and continue through the 23rd. Order tickets through the Cincinnati Ballet.
