This past fall I received a call from my wife who teaches at Rogers High School for the Toledo Public School System in Toledo Ohio. She was introduced to a student who was melting crayons into a form of artwork. Many times when my wife and I go to an art show I tell Debbie “I can do that”. With that in mind I received a call from my wife. She tried to explain it to me, but I just couldn’t grasp the concept over the phone. So being close to the school I drove on over. I was amazed at what I saw, and I began to have some fun melting crayons on a piece of canvas.
Later in the month, my wife was at one of her water aerobics class, and was talking with her instructor Patty about my new adventure of melting crayons on canvass. Patty who is also a teacher for Toledo Public Schools is very involved in Mountain Mentors. Patty proceeded to ask if I might like to be a part of their upcoming fund raiser with one of my pieces of art. So later that night Debbie asked me if I would like to get involved, and I said that would be great.
A few weeks past and I was getting excited for the evening of the fund raiser. It was the first time I had displayed one of my pieces of art and did not know what to expect. Not only was the fund raiser for the Mountain Mentors well attended, it was a huge success. My art piece sold for $125.00.
During the silent auction I met Michael Palmer who is an abstract artist. Michael had a couple of his pieces of art in the silent auction. Michael proceed to tell me about a book store called UKAZOO Books close to the University of Toledo that sells new and used books and will allow artists bring in their art to be displayed. Michael thought it would be a great opportunity for me.
Long story short one of my smaller pieces of art is now on display at UKAZOO Books. If you are looking for an unusual gift for the holidays and would like to buy local, please go to UKAZOO Books
