At this time of year, most of us are running around preparing for the holidays and trying to make sure the year ends up successfully. Most of us can't think about new chapters and next steps.
But this is a great time of year to start thinking about buying or selling a home.
If you are a buyer, right now is the time to contact lenders and start getting your financials in order. Remember not to go overboard with gift buying; racking up debt is counter productive to your goal of purchasing a new home. Remind yourself that it is the 'thought that counts,' and purchase accordingly. Lenders will pay attention to your credit cards--even after your loan has been 'approved.'
Consider your timing and begin thinking about hiring a Buyer's Agent. Think about how your search will coincide with either your move out date, your lease expiration or the sale of your home. Find an agent who can work with you to meet this date.
If you are a seller, it is never too early to start cleaning out your closets and storage rooms. Use this time to drop by open houses and get a sense of the condition of listed homes. Remember, people will open your closets and cabinets!
Lining up contractors for improvements and repairs, is easier at this time of year. Get on their calendar now and you won't have to worry about delaying your listing in the Spring.
It is also a great time to begin interviewing listing agents. Select an agent who is familiar with the market and with whom you have a comfortable and trusting relationship. You are going to want their advice, so select someone that you would take that advice from.
It may seem too early, but it really is a great time to think about your Spring Real Estate plans and goals.
