Christmas Ship Parade Video On The Columbia River, Portland OR 2012 I'm fortunate to own a floating home on the Columbia River in Portland, Oregon where the Christmas Ship Parade goes by a couple of times during the season. It was a perfect Portland evening to watch these gorgeous ships, listen to the cheers of appreciation as well as hear the holiday music playing from them. Talk about putting you in the holiday spirit!

So, I took my camera and walked to the dock in front of my floating home to get the best view and took some video. Now...what I did forget was that the dock I was on would move with the small wakes when the ships went by and at one point I thought I was going in the river! They come by again next week...I hope the weather is just as perfect!

I did have to smile when we were sitting on our deck and my hubby says ala a line in Jaws "We need a bigger boat". It seems he just might want to participate next year. We shall see..somehow I can't see it but ya never know. A couple of years ago I would have laughed if he said we were going to own a floating home! Who says living on a floating home in Portland is just for the summertime!

A huge thanks to all of those that DO deck out their ships for our enjoyment!!

Hi Sarah, You're most welcome. They go by twice in one evening.. the first time I was watching but concentrating on taking the video, the second time when they reversed and came back I was able to really enjoy them without looking through the camera!

Cindy~oh that video--gosh it totally makes me miss experiencing this firsthand! Lucky you! And you're right, who says a floating home is just for the summer! (Just like a vacation home at Fishhawk Lake--festive for ALL seasons.)

I remember being on the water one year at one of my husband's Christmas parties that was on one of the professional boat dinner/cruises and we got to see this up close. A PHENOMENAL amount of work this takes for all of these owners. So, thank you SO much for this trip down Memory Lane. (Maybe you can Peacock Lane next year??? ) Ha! Merry Christmas, sweetie.

Thanks Mel! It is very fun owning a floating home. I remember meeting our neighbors when we were going through the remodel and they all said that we would be there more that on weekends...and they were so right! It's just far enough away from our regular home to deter running home....yet close if we need to. I toss around the idea of having an AR meetup there and a girls night sound great!

Hi Gayle, Hmm..I yet to visit Peacock Lane, so might just have to add that for next year! I bet Fish Hawk Lake look gorgeous during the holidays. Some of those ships are so elaborate and amazing I sooo appreciate all the work. It's fun to watch them go by when all you see are the lights and not the ships..so it looks like they are just floating through the air. Merry Christmas to you as well!

Hi Jill, thanks! We are indeed! It is a place to go and just decompress and if you have to work, during the summer you can sit outside on the deck aand this time of year we can enjoy the great view. Happy Hanukkah!!
