Woman Agent Leaving Office

"Due to your frequent contact with unfamiliar people in private locations, real estate agents face more on-the-job risks than many other business professionals."

We recently spent the day with Andrew Wooten an incredible national security expert and friend (you may have seen him on Oprah) with over 25 years of experience in helping real estate professionals around the country improve their safety and security at work and at home.

I applaud the National Association of REALTORS® 10 Second Rule. Not only is it the most widely used awareness tool but, it truly works. But, we also recognize that we are all busy and always multitasking.

When we arrive at our destination we all know we should stop and take a few seconds to look around, but we don’t. So, can you take one second?

Andrew asked me to share his Five Second Rule with you!

Take One Second and look before you walk outside.

Take One Second and look behind you as you walk to your car.

Take One Second as you stop at red lights/stop signs.

Take One Second before exiting your vehicle.

Take One Second as you walk towards your destination.

Safety
Last but not least, remember Andrew’s Golden Rule
“You are your best weapon, your mind, voice and body. Listen and trust your inner voice. It is the best weapon you have.”

Very important.  Understnading your souroundings is important.  That includes being alert and having an understanding of how to evaluate if you face a threat.  Check local police departments.  Many give training on this.

Having been raised by an FBI agent security was a huge part of,y upbringing. I lock my car doors all the time. Never enter a house when the door is slight ajar if it should be locked and many more lessons taught.

I start shooting the second I set my parking brake! Then I haul butt up to the lockbox. If anyone's standing after I've unloaded my magazine I try to sell the neighborhood and the amenities.

Kidding, obviously. So important to keep your situational awareness.

Hello Johnathan;  always good advice and a good reminder of the perils we face by meeting strangers in remote locations.  5 seconds should be possible.
