A HOLIDAY SEASON ANNOUNCEMENT THAT I CAN DO WITHOUT IN THE FUTURE

Here is a Holiday Season announcement that I can do without in the future.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have announced that they will suspend evictions for occupants of foreclosed 1-4 unit properties again this year-end.

Fannie Mae will forbear from evictions from Dec. 19th through Jan. 2nd.

Freddie Mac will hold off from Dec. 17th through Jan. 2nd.

After that…

Folks will need to find a new place to live because evictions will resume.

How would you feel if you were living in one of these foreclosed properties? Would you be in a mood to celebrate the Season of Joy? Would you have Happy Holidays? Would you celebrate with optimism for the New Year? Would you be looking for a new place to live?

Yes…I will be glad when the phenomenon of eviction moratoria and foreclosure holidays are over. I will be glad when homeowners are not losing their houses across the United States.

Yes…I will be glad when this sad chapter in our history is closed.

It's a sad chapter that many of those we see as victims had a hand in writing themselves.  People live way beyond their means and until we realize that and do something about it, we are doomed to keep repeating the same mistakes.  Yeah, the banks offered unbelievables deals on homes, but I think we all know now that only person we can rely on is ourselves.  Every adult in this county should a firm grasp of budgeting and how loans work.

Yes, Amelia, very a very sad chapter. I am sure that many folks who have lost their homes will enjoy a Merry Christmas in the future but will have strong memories of those times that were not so merry.

Chris Ann: I agree that many put themselves in circumstances that they should have avoided. At the same time, many people who had their equity disappear in the downturn were subsequently the victims of job loss or other misfortune. In a different time, they could have sold their homes and taken whatever equity they had to move on with their lives. No equity=no sale=foreclosure unless the loss of the house was by short sale.
