Gilroy Gardens Light Show - Gilroy CA
There are some great activities to be enjoyed by the whole family within driving distance of Gilroy California.
Gilroy Gardens opened their gates earlier this month to visitors young and old to enjoy the magnificent light display and laser show. Bundle up, bring your family and friends and enjoy this festive park. It can get crowded and most rides are open. The banana boat is a lot of fun as is the mushroom carousel, the merry-go-round, the train, which takes visitors to different parts of the park and the monorail. The quicksilver roller-coaster is great fun as well as the antique cars, which take drivers on a tour along a road full of holiday displays and lights.
At the end of the evening visitors gather along the waterfront for a breathtaking laser show. Stores are open and visitors can buy last minute gifts.
Gilroy Gardens was formally know as Bonfante Gardens named after Michael Bonfante who developed this park to what it is today. Michael had a vision. He started the park to display the circus trees to the general public. However, in order to distract families he added attractions to the park. At the time it had a miniature golf and picnic areas to host company events. But Michael had bigger plans so he sold the supermarket NobHill, his father started and developed Bonfante Garden into the beautiful park it is today. He hired Karen Aitkin, a local landscape architect, to help with the project and the rest is history.
The name of the park was changed after the City of Gilroy took over the park a few years ago and is now known as Gilroy Gardens.
Gilroy Gardens is a non-profit park and open from 4:00 to 9:00 pm on December 14 through 23 and December 26 through the 30st.
Bundle up and enjoy the light show which keeps getting better year after year.
