Facing Foreclosure? The California Department Of Real Estate May Be Able To Help

home mortgage infoforeclosure

It's been estimated that 2,000,000 homes will go into foreclosure this year. That's a mind numbing number. At last week's California Association of REALTORS® January business meetings, DRE commissioner Jeff Davi told us about the Consumer Home Mortgage Information page. Not only will you find information useful to California homeowners, but you should be able to get some good information regardless of where you live.

The page offers help for purchasing and owning a home, obtaining a mortgage, filing a complaint and much more. If you think you may be facing foreclosure, I urge you to visit HUD's Tips For Avoiding Foreclosure. There's a link from the prior website directly to it.

In many cases, if you communicate with your lender rather than avoid them, you may be able to work out an arrangement that will allow you to save your home. That's a win-win in my book.

Tom- Yes, IF the Mortgage Company will work with them, then fine.  I know of someone that called and the mortgage company wouldn't do anything.....well, effectively nothing......but bottome line as you say is if they don't call they won't know.

Tom - very useful information, the problem I have found with many consumers is they avoid the problem until it is too late, being proactive is the best course of action and your tips are a good place to start.

Tom, helping people avoid foreclosure is a really good thing.  For a lot of people, actually calling the lender to work it out seems counter intuitive!

Tom - The numbers are staggering. In my area there have not been too many. I suspect over the next year this could change. It certainly is not a pleasant thought.

Bill - Riverside County, where I live, has been hit very hard. I'm encouraged that some of the lenders are willing to work with homeowners who are in trouble.

Bill & Barbara-Jo - Thanks. That's the idea. Spread the news.

Tom~We are in such a time that is truly "numbing" as you called it. It's heartbreaking to me to have clients call that just closed 1 year ago and they can no longer afford their home. The information you have here is fantastic and what a difference that will make for consumers who come across your blog.

Julie - It is heartbreaking. My hope is that folks will fight the fear and try to see if their lenders will work with them.

Tom:  That estimated number of foreclosures is quite a stunner!  Do you happen to know if they said which states might have the most?  I am going to your links now and that information be in some of your links somewhere.  I just haven't read them yet.

"Do good work for good people."

Tom- Kudos to you for posting a much needed HELP site from HUD. There are a lot of predatory "Mortgage-rescue" sites out there right now (as if these poor folks facing foreclosure and sometimes bankruptcy needed another SCAM!!!).  It is so very important that people go directly to HUD for assistance and contacts.  This way they can at least avoid another unfortunate disruption in their, already, disrupted life.

Way to go helping people!

Live good. Be happy. Be a helper!

Hi Tom - Thanks for sharing this resource. It's great to see the DRE step forward with a useful consumer site as well as one that other states can model. Education will play an increasingly important role as we all work our way through this challenging market.
