St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia Cut Your Own Christmas Tree

By

In the St. Charles, Geneva and Batavia area there are several places to cut your own tree this Christmas. There is something sweet and old-fashioned about picking the perfect tree and cutting it down yourself.

Abbey Farms is open every day 9am to 7pm until December 23. Abbey Farms is a non profit operation run by the monks of Marmion Academy. The tree farm is located on 300 acres of land at the corner of Butterfield and Hart Roads in Aurora. Cut your own trees are only $40 and includes a hot cup of cocoa on weekends. There is a gift store with beautifully made gift baskets. Bring your own saw or borrow one for a $10 deposit. Pre-cut fir trees are available for $8 a foot.  See the Abbey website or call (630)897-7215. Map

Kuiper’s Family Farm in Maple Park is just a few miles west of Batavia. After riding a farm wagon out to the tree fields, you can select and cut a fir or pine tree. While the staff puts your tree on your car, you can enjoy a fresh apple cider donut and hot chocolate at the Orchard Shop and Bakery. Cut your own fir trees are $84 and cut your own pines are $49. Pre-cut trees are also available. For more info see Kuiper’s website or call (815)827-5200. Map

Lee’s Trees is located in Lily Lake, a small town west of St. Charles. This small family farm has 10 acres of pine, fir and spruce trees to choose from. When you’ve cut your tree, the helpers will bale it up and tie it onto your car for you. Lee’s also offers pre-cut trees from Wisconsin, swags, centerpieces, and wreaths. Lee’s is open in Friday from 1:00-5:00 and Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 to 5:00. Call 630-365-2116. Map.

Leslie, That's a tough call.  Help out the monks or one of the small family businesses?  I guess you really can't go wrong!

Leslie: It always sounds so romantic to go cut your own tree, but I can only imagine the family arguments that ensue (or maybe that would only be my family ;-)

I haven't cut my own tree in a few years but it was fun when my kids were young to be able to wander the field in serch of the perfect tree.  Merry Christmas!

Leslie as romantic and the opportunity it creates for  family cohesiveness, I prefer someone either delivering or at least put it on my  car, now keep in mind it has bee at least ten years since we had a Christmas Tree so I am not the authority on this:)))

Leslie - we used to go to Abbey Farms every year when we used to live in St Charles.  I sure miss the smell of a fresh cut tree.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday!!!
