In the St. Charles, Geneva and Batavia area there are several places to cut your own tree this Christmas. There is something sweet and old-fashioned about picking the perfect tree and cutting it down yourself.
Abbey Farms is open every day 9am to 7pm until December 23. Abbey Farms is a non profit operation run by the monks of Marmion Academy. The tree farm is located on 300 acres of land at the corner of Butterfield and Hart Roads in Aurora. Cut your own trees are only $40 and includes a hot cup of cocoa on weekends. There is a gift store with beautifully made gift baskets. Bring your own saw or borrow one for a $10 deposit. Pre-cut fir trees are available for $8 a foot. Kuiper’s Family Farm in Maple Park is just a few miles west of Batavia. After riding a farm wagon out to the tree fields, you can select and cut a fir or pine tree. While the staff puts your tree on your car, you can enjoy a fresh apple cider donut and hot chocolate at the Orchard Shop and Bakery. Cut your own fir trees are $84 and cut your own pines are $49. Lee’s Trees is located in Lily Lake, a small town west of St. Charles. This small family farm has 10 acres of pine, fir and spruce trees to choose from. When you’ve cut your tree, the helpers will bale it up and tie it onto your car for you. Lee’s also offers pre-cut trees from Wisconsin, swags, centerpieces, and wreaths.
