The Serenity Prayer can Work for All of Us
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference. "
A while back a family member called to vent and share about a family situation, wishing there was a way to handle it better. They understood their own feelings, and respected the point of view of the party in question, but coping was another matter. Out of the blue I thought of the Serenity Prayer.
This summer I hit an emotional bottom when it seemed more was going wrong than right, I was agonizing over appraisers and bankers and buyers who walked from transactions and the 24/7 maintenance some of my clients were “expecting” of me. I knew an attitude adjustment was in dire need…and again I thought of that Serenity Prayer.
Last week I attended a class on the importance of Balance in our life-work-play routine. The hamster wheel was mentioned as well as our addiction to our technology products. (And yes, my smart phone was 2 inches away as I listened) One of the points of the speech was, “You can only control yourself”. “Act, re-act, believe”. The Serenity Prayer popped up again.
As we move towards the busy holiday season in our respective faiths and belief systems, we know the balance of family, work, vacation, clients, expectations, health, cooking, gift wrapping, activities, etc…is simply overwhelming.
Give yourself the gift of the Serenity Prayer.
