Gig Harbor (Washington) Lights Up The Water this Saturday evening, Dec. 15th.
There are two different events which will be taking place that evening, in the waters of Gig Harbor.
The first one, starting at 5 p.m. is the lighted kayak holiday tour. You can bring your own kayak and they will decorate it with lights (or if you call in advance you may even be able to rent a kayak from Gig Harbor Rent-a-Boat and Charters (253) 858-7341). After the kayaks are all illuminated, there will be a guided tour through the harbor. They also recommend you bring a favorite mug for the hot chocolate they will be providing (there is a cost involved to cover the lights/cocoa/guide). One of the highlights will be seeing the next item from the water level.
At 7 p.m. the Gig Harbor Yacht Club will be starting their annual Lighted Boat Parade. It is an amazing sight to see all the lights on some of these boats. It really adds to sense of the Christmas seaon. There are several good vantage points around the harbor to see this parade of boats and their beautiful decorations, but you will probably want to get their early to get through the traffic and find a good spot.
For those concerned about the cost for getting back to the Tacoma side through the Toll Bridge, you could make a day of it, as Gig Harbor has other activities going on from late morning through the afternoon in anticipation of the lighted boat parade.
