FOR SALE My Sweet Home Alabama (Sad Face)

By
Education & Training with Sell with Soul

My wonderful home-in-the-country-on-4-acres is on the market. It's in Newton, Alabama, about 15 miles outside of Dothan, which is in the southeast corner of Alabama, close to both the Florida and Georgia state lines. The blue waters of Panama City Beach and Destin are 90 minutes away, but there's a white-sand river beach on the Little Choctawhatchee River just 5 minutes away!

It's 2300 sqft, 3 bedrooms/2baths, gorgeous antique wood floors, Jacuzzi tub, walk-in closet, tons and tons of storage and a custom built sunroom to die for (we called it the Tree House). Price? $248,000.

I was very happy there. I know the new owners will be, too...

Great Home ... Karen, if you get a metal roof make sure you have enough insulation.  I lived in Houston with a metal roof and the rain was so hard that the sound was deafening.

I looked at 15 homes the day I bought this one... the minute I drove onto the lot... I was sold.

Allen - the rain could be deafening - luckily my bedroom was on the first floor, so it was just mildly deafening.

Rob - the view was spectacular - if you like looking at trees... which I did. In Denver, you always want the mountain view, so at first I didn't consider "trees" to be a view. But once I added the treehouse/sunroom... ahhhhh.... yes, trees are lovely. My office upstairs had a similar view.

Absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Nothing like a country atmosphere, southern climate and nice water nearby. I bet my wife would love living out there. Just curious, how are the insurance rates in Dothan? In Florida they are ridiculous. I just wonder how much they go down just 90 minutes from the coast. I live in Pensacola and am paying over $2000 a year on an $180K home.

Insurance wasn't bad - not cheap, but around $1600 a year, I believe. Taxes were next to nothing - less than $500.

Thanks for sharing the info Jennifer. Taxes in Florida are really high compared to Alabama, but then Alabama has a state income tax I think, so they even out a little bit. Looks like a super deal on that home. Hope it sells fast to a happy family who can really appreciate it.

Oh, what an adorable house!  And so much character!  Too bad you can't just pick it up and take it with you.  Only $248k?  It's amazing what you can get for so little in some parts of the country!

Borino - what's going on?????? Yes, new beginnings are exhilarating.

Lisa - I know - when I moved to Alabama I thought I'd died and gone to real estate heaven.

Faith... It was NOT an easy decision...

I'm commenting from Western NY, where the snow is flying, property taxes are more than $6000 a year for a house in the city that sells for $175,000 PLUS we have state income taxes.  I also understand we have some of the highest gasoline taxes as well,  I should schedule an appointment to look at your house!

Jennifer -- The home is lovely. . .but I grew up in Colorado and it's beautiful as well (as a matter of fact, I'm a little jealous of you getting to move there ;-)  I'm sure you will be hugely successful and that someone wonderful will buy and love your peaceful country retreat.

I'd told you before that your Alabama house is my dream house, too! I didn't know you had a jacuzzi -- what a BONUS! When I'm a rich and famous real estate agent <!> I'm going to build a house just like it!  I

I hope it sells quickly for you.  :)
