BLOGGING SECRETS ~ DISCOVERING YOUR BLOGGING STYLE!

Blogging

I get asked a lot how I find the time to blog, what I write about and basically how I do it?  I believe that there are many people out there who believe that blogging is difficult and only for experienced writers!  So not true!  Let me share a few blogging secrets that you may not have picked up in school!

FIRST let me say that emphasis that you do NOT need to be a professional writer or have any special writing skills in order to succeed with blogging.  I find that the top bloggers are simply writing almost as they speak.  They aren't trying to be overly editorial, but more simply speaking from the heart and very conversational.

SECONDLY it does take time to blog yet consistently and diligently working on a blogging presence takes DEDICATION.  Finding time to write is a discipline that must be incorporated into your daily life if you wish to succeed at blogging.  However, the more you do it, the easier this gets just like anything in life.

THIRD, many people believe that blogging is on the way out.  There are a few hundred thousand members here on Active Rain that would disagree with you.  Consistent blogging helps your phone to ring and puts the Google Juice into your Internet presence like none other.

FOURTH, many people mistakenly believe that they can't think up things to write about.  You do NOT have to just write about real estate for heaven's sake.  Write about your community, your life, business tips, heartaches, lessons learned, photographs, funny stories - the ideas are endless.  Just browse the AR blog roll and you will get the picture.

FIFTH, just be YOURSELF!  We all have our own style and our own voices.  Don't be afraid to let people learn who you are through your writing.  Those of us here on Active Rain truly have deep friendships with some people here that we have never met in person.  This is only achieved when people are blogging with their own personal style!

So, if you are struggling with the blogging, have no fear!  Just be yourself and your own style will shine through!  We hope to see you here in the Rain soon!

Great tips Paula. I would say that good writing is important. Nothing worse than trying to read poor grammar and spelling.

Paula: I never blogged about local items, but after the Christmas events challenge, I see where there is a never ending stream of localism opportunities. Yes, I came late to this and it's a new world to blog about.

HI Paula, great advice to those contemplating writing a blog. I encourage people to write from the heart about what they know be it a real estate transaction, a community, their charity of choice. Anything to get people to follow you for  you, your brand. No one can ever take that away from you.

Really? Blogging is on the way out? Interesting & I find that ridiculous. There is alot of great info out there written on great blogs on all types of subjects.  I think that the people who just don't want to do it are saying it's out or are just plain LAZY.

Good tips, thanks.  We all make blogging into something else, something difficult.  I recently attended an AR webinar with Bob and learned the format for Neighborhood information blogs and Local home price blogs.  It's simple, doesn't require a lot of time and it's helped me start blogging.  I'm learning something about myself and the comments I receive are helpful as well.  The Nike slogan works best when blogging, Just Do It!

Paula~ Number FIVE is the most important (in my humble opinion).  The blogger needs to be comfortable to be successful.  Just be yourself, the rest is easy!

Thank you for sharing your perspective Paula. I agree with all your points, but number one - the 'just writing' part  does not come easily to all. Also, if someone writes with grammatical or usage errors, it is rather off-putting and might work against the individual.

I love this post Paula.  I'm trying to get into a routine that includes consistent blogging but I was starting to feel a little overwhelmed and stressed at the thought of coming up with something to write about every day.  Your post was just what I needed to allow me to calm down a bit and get over my writers block.

Hi Paula, we agree.  Just when we can't think of a topic, a news item comes up and several ideas pop into our mind.  That is when we start a draft to be worked on as time allows.
